"Why must we limit ourselves to something as mundane as giants?"

[Samantha McManus]

"We're the ones among the lesser beings, right?"

"But let's assume that we've genetic momentum on our side, and the best-case scenario happens. Mutant births continue to boom, we're no longer a minority, we get the reins of power worldwide by whatever means."

"Humans are treated however you like, as lepers in our enlightened society, amusing pets, whatever tickles your fancy. Being headed for the genetic boneyard, they're out of our hair in a matter of generations."

"So what are we left with? Who are the pitiable wretches now? Do we resent those mutants that still resemble humans, because they're unfortunate throwbacks? Do we have a caste system based off of how much of this wondrous Darwinist bounty we manage to have inherited by birth?"

"All sounds like terrible fun, doesn't it?"

[Kyra Raphael]

"Why shouldn't rank be based on merit?" Kyra asked hotly.

[Samantha McManus]

"Because who determines merit? Ask yourself if that scary bastard they've got following the guest of honor would even consider any of us better than he does mud on his shoe."

[Kyra Raphael]

"Lord Exodus has been through a great deal and has done much to advance the cause of mutants." Kyra replied.

[Samantha McManus]

"And he's likely operating on a level none of us can ever dream of. You can see it in how he looks at everyone around him."

"You're always genetrash to someone and I don't know about any of you, but I can't say as I'm certain I'll always make the cut, eh?"

[Morgan Evans]

Morgan leaned over and kissed Connor.

Hello love, glad you could make it.

[Connor Marshall]

Wouldn't miss it for the world, love Connor thought back, his fingers stroking down her back.

[Morgan Evans]

I can't believe they are actually here.. I never thought that chance would come, not for a long while anyway. Morgan put her hand on Connor's knee and gave it an excited squeeze.

[Connor Marshall]

We'll have to be sure to make a good impression, Connor agreed.

[Morgan Evans]

I'm sure there will be no problem with you doing that.

[Connor Marshall]

Or you, love. If we can just avoid killjoys like this, everything'll be great.

[Kyra Raphael]

"So you're going to let your insecurities rule you?" Kyra asked, reaching out a bit to taste the girl's emotions better.

[Samantha McManus]

"I'm just being realistic about the situation and honest with myself."

The girl's mental defenses were still holding for the most part. What emotion got through was that the girl certainly believed what she was saying. She didn't seem angry, in fact her urbane, mostly amused demeanor hadn't faltered since they'd been there.

"A genetic caste system isn't that different from what developed in India, or the labyrinthine 'Casta' system that developed in the Spanish colonies, affording privilege by how pure-blooded a Spaniard you were. All three are just systems that absolve you of guilt for treating the 'low-born' like shit because it's their lot in life."

"And the elephant in the room in discussions like this is that we're embarrassed to admit we still think like them. We're still petty, venal creatures regardless of what wonderful butterflies we're becoming and we don't magically earn a ticket out of the human mindset with our pair of wings."

"Which is why I'm not holding any illusions about the majestic brotherhood of mutantkind holding up one second longer than the human race does."

[Alex Campion]

"Personally I only wish to go as far as having those who threaten us be... dealt with."

[Samantha McManus]

"Question is, eternally, 'and then what?'"

She raised her glass to Alex and took a sip.

[Alex Campion]

"And then we take our rightful place as masters of this world. Beyond that of course the strong will take the reigns, and I oh so do plan to be one of them. That is simply the natural order."

[Samantha McManus]

She smirked.

"Pull the other one, it's got bells on."

[Alex Campion]

He just smirked back with a disturbing sort of arrogance beneath the surface.

[Samantha McManus]

"I'm sure there's more than a few out there who think energy manipulators should be the elite. Or ferals. Or telepaths. None of which are likely to go gentle into that good night."

"If you think about it, the humans are one of the main reasons we're not at each other's throats quite so much as we might be."

[Connor Marshall]

"Don't worry too hard," Connor put in to Kyra and Alex, rolling his eyes. "People who haven't been hurt by humans can't be reasoned with sometimes."

[Samantha McManus]

She chuckled.

"Have I said anything that's untrue? Please, point it out to me."

[Morgan Evans]

"Perhaps you haven't said anything untrue based on your own perceptions and beliefs but I do not feel the same way as you. I don't think that your experience with humans has been quite like ours and I don't feel I need to pointlessly justify my position to someone that doesn't know me or mine, who also just wants to stress their own position not listen to those around them." Morgan's voice was quite though emphatic.

[Samantha McManus]

"Perhaps I'm a little put off by the boy who wants to be my future overlord, or the girl who thinks there's nothing wrong with ranking me according to how much or how little power I may or may not have."

She gave Morgan a saddened look.

"And there was a time I wanted to believe in mutant solidarity, that we really could be better than humans, in the ways that really matter, not just our powers."

"And there's one thing I know, and know intimately. That's the fact that my 'people' can and have hurt me as much as the humans ever did, often for no better reason than they could."

"So I'd say we're both a little once bitten and twice shy, eh? Just for different reasons."

[Connor Marshall]

Connor looked at Morgan and shrugged. "Really, as long as we're on top, who cares where everything else falls?"

[Morgan Evans]

Exactly. Morgan leaned over and wrapped her arms around Connor's neck, pressing her lips to his cheeks.

Does sound like a nice place to live though but so long as I am with you then anywhere will be fine.
