Downtime 4: The Patriot and the Redcoat

Postby Will Stanton » Thu Jul 23, 2009 4:13 am

Will sat down in the XUB, still be-decked in his revolutionary garb. He ordered a flask of mead; seemed appropriate, somehow, as he draped his cape over the back of the chair.

After a while Sara slinks into the Xub and sits down next to him, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Hey."

"Alas! I have been discovered behind enemy lines!" Will cried, before giving her a kiss back. "How you doing?"

"No. Yes. I don't know. It was stupid. I just saw Bear 'bossing' you around and I was jealous, because it was kinda like... well like you were getting something from her I haven't been giving you, you know...?"

Will smiled. "It was just a bet, Sara, it's not like that. Bear's just our friend, you know..."

"I know, that's why it was stupid. You wouldn't do something like that. You just seemed so happy and, well, I couldn't help it." she frowns at herself.

Will frowned, too. "Look, Sara, if I had known it was going to upset you, I wouldn't have made the bet...I'm sorry..."

"It's okay, Will. It wouldn't even be a problem if I wasn't so bad at coming up with things to do, you know? It's not that I don't want to, but I feel like I'm failing you in that..."

"Oh, don't feel that way. Really, don't," Will smiled, sadly. "There's no need for you to be making me hop to something fantastic and new every second of the day. Really, don't let it eat you..."

Will smiled, and hugged Sara. "It's OK. Yeah, I would enjoy it, but I don't want you to feel, well, obligated."

"Cheer up. Maybe this'll help." Smiling, he put his hat on Sara's head.

"And you do. Like no one else.

Just..don't worry about it. If you want to try something, try something; don't worry about it too much. If it works, it works, if it doesn't, it doesn't. No biggie. And if you don't want to try something, don't. Try not to overthink anything--just, you know, do what feels right."

"It's the step before the 'trying something' that's the biggest problem really... I just... need some inspiration or something, I don't know." she smiles wryly.

"Well," Will thought, "if you're having trouble thinking of things as Sara...kinda project yourself. Set up a situation with someone in control--a superior, or an expert, or something--and someone without it--a subordinate, someone seeking help, something--and just kind of let it flow from there. Acting," he chuckled. "Roleplay might...get some creative juices flowing."

He smiled. "And remember, I'm flexible," he smiled. "I can fit into nearly any situation you can think of."

"It could totally work. A teacher checking grades is, well, kinda cliche, but there's a reason. A doctor checking out their new patient. A scientist and their experiment. Heck, with someone like me, there's tons of options--you could even go, I dunno, something like a new...I dunno, Bunsen burner or something sciency being delivered. I dunno what the heck you use there," he chuckled.

"Then, there's other stuff, of course--you could just tell me to do something until you say stop, and not say stop until, like, later that day...'lose an inch every 15 minutes until I say stop' or something," he smiled. "But if you're having trouble thinking, getting into a character might help..."

"Mime and make-believe are wonderful things," Will chuckled. "And if you really want, I've got a key to the costume room on my desk."

"Or, you could just ask me to perform simple tasks--with a degree of difficulty. Let's say, for instance, you wanted something to drink--you could ask me to get it. Without getting up. Or from XUB2. Or something. Or, like 'do the dishes, while ignoring 'this'", he smiled.

"That is not true! I have one bowl and one spoon!" Will laughed.

"And of course, if I fail at the condition, well, you'd better teach me a lesson," he chuckled.

"Of course, can't let you fail at cleaning up all of two pieces of dishes. That'd have to be some condition..." she chuckles sticks her tongue out at Will.

Will chuckled. "And, of course, if you wanted to eat alone, you could have any dish or utensil you wanted. You could do something like the pen in the dining hall."

Will nods. "Yeah, you're right. I'm just throwing ideas out, seeing what sticks, you know? You said you couldn't think of ANYTHING, so I'm just sputtering some out as they come off the top of my head."

"That's more what I was thinking of, anyway. If you wanted to use me as a plate, you don't need me to transform," Will snickered.

Will wrapped an arm around Sara, to hold her close.

"And if all else fails, tie me to the bed with my own arms and legs and go to town," he snickered.

Will knows better than to disrupt a woman while she's thinking, so he drinks some more of his beer, and rests his head on Sara's shoulder.

After a bit she grabs the beer mat from the table and takes Will's hand, poking his index finger against the improvised notepad. "I need a pen. And no peeking!"

She quickly writes down a few bullet points before stuffing the notes into her pocket. "All done, you can look again." she smiles.
