By the time they got to the cafeteria it was clear that Jess was still suffering. She was a touch breathless and had unconsciously clutched at her ribs on more than one occasion.

[Ryan Gabriel]

Ryan observed all of this as they went down, and as such, did whatever he could to make things easier on her without making it too obvious that he was patronizing her. He did, however, insist that she pick a lunch of foods that would be easy on her stomach, which had gone without food in it for a few days.

"You need rest," he said when they sat down, stating the obvious, concern evident in his voice.

"You're the one that dragged me out here." Jess pointed out.

[Ryan Gabriel]

"Yeah, well, you also needed food," Ryan said, shrugging. "And you didn't seem likely to worry about it on your own."

"I'd have gotten something eventually." Jess protested.

Ryan smiled a little. "Before or after you passed out from low blood sugar?"
