Sept. 28 and on - Rhi's room

Sometime in the afternoon, Ryan knocked lightly on the door to Rhi's room. "Anyone awake in here?"

Rhi smiled at the voice, it hurt and she quickly stopped but she did answer.

"Hey there."

"Hey," Ryan said, walking in, still a bit painfully. "Sorry I didn't stop in sooner, I just found out you were in here." He set a little vase with a yellow rose in it on her bedside table. "I've spent enough time in these rooms to know that they can always use some brightening up," he said with a wink.

"So I guess that asking how you're doing would be a stupid question?"

"You're hurt! What happened? My lord Ryan, are you okay?" Rhi asked worriedly, she tried to use her left elbow to lever herself up, her wrists being broken and her other arm still aching, she succeeded only in sending a wave of pain rippling through her core.

"Are you okay?"

Ryan pressed his hand gently to her chest, pushing her lightly back onto the bed. "Relax. I'm up and you're not, so I get to worry about you, not the other way around," he said, smiling a little.

"And I'll be okay. Got shot in the arm. Again. And got the hell beat out of me by the biggest vampire there. Other than, everything went all right."

"Of course it had to be the biggest, you can't do anything by halves can you Ryan Gabriel?" Rhi teased gently.

"I'm fine though. Broken wrists, dislocated and reset shoulder and elbow, internal injuries. A few days and it will be fine."

"Well, I didn't have much choice, really," he said, chuckling. "And it looks like you didn't hold back much either." He brushed his knuckle against her cheek, then took a seat in the chair next to her bed.

Rhi closed her eyes at his touch and as he sat she turned her head to look out the window. Feeling suddenly smaller and more vulnerable.

"I swear, it was like five minutes after you left, the bed was still warm where you had been.. they must have known as soon as the teams had departed. He found me in my room... " Tears rolled down her cheeks and she took a moment to right herself, looking momentarily more like Jayda than before.

"I hadn't even gotten dressed yet."

Ryan sighed. "I don't know why we didn't expect this. We'll have to plan better for next time." He started to reach for her hand, then realized that it was a bad idea, so he just rested his hand on the bed near hers

She turned her face away and sobbed quietly, not wanting to look at Ryan, the hand on the bed so close and yet so far had opened such a gulf inside of her chest that she felt like she could barely breath. All she wanted was to be held and it was the one thing she couldn't have now.

"Jayda is talking about taking us away."

Ryan sighed. "Shit," he whispered. "Let's... just hope that things calm down and that she does, too," he said. He pressed his hand into the mattress, slipping his hand under hers so that he wouldn't put any pressure on her wrist.

Rhi winced but curled her fingers between his ever so slightly turning her face back to him.

"She thinks its her fault I got hurt. That her choice to bring us here put me in this position." Rhi spoke softly.

"Jayda.. she's really not like us at all. She's totally Alien. I heard my mother say once that Jayda's mother was from another galaxy. It will take a lot to get her to change her mind I think.."

Ryan smiled a little. "Well, you could always just stall the 'where to go' for a month or two until you're eighteen. Then she can't make you leave."

"She's my family. I'm all she has, Ryan." Rhi was sad saying it because she knew it was true, she forced a smile for him.

"Its not worth thinking about now though, I have a while before I will be able to get out of bed let alone go back to the General. Tell me - how is everyone?"

"Banged up," he said. "I haven't seen the whole list yet, of course. A few people got shot, a few people got beaten up, some worse than others. As far as I've seen, nothing so far that won't heal."

"Surely they could just snap people necks or whatever, I mean the one that came after me.. he crushed my wrists in one hand."

"No idea," Ryan sighed, shaking his head. "I'm kind of glad they did, though... Gunshots are a lot faster to heal than crushed things."

Ryan smiled, then scooted his chair up, reaching up to run his fingers, carefully, over her head and through her hair. "S'all right. I wouldn't have been good company anyway. I could barely move when I got back yesterday."

Ryan nodded. "Spent a while out there getting patched up, then I spent a good ten hours unconscious, at least. Then I had to write up my mission report for the debriefing." He shook his head, remembering trying to diplomatically put into the report that Merle was a moron who got a hostage killed.

"Nope, I just spotted a place that looked like it wouldn't hurt you to be kissed," he teased, sitting back down. "And if she's not the sparkle-ride type, I guess you'll just have to settle for flying with me," he said, sighing, like this was such a loss for her.

Ryan smiled, brushing her cheek again. "It's settled, then. Once you're better, I'll have to show you how a real flier flies," he said, trying to keep his tone calm, not wanting to tease her into laughing again.

"Two dates, sorry did you ask for three dates? Four it is! Glad we could agree." Rhi supressed a giggle and ended up coughing. It hurt more and she gave Ryan a helpless look.

"Can you please hold my cup of water for me? It has a straw..."

Ryan nodded, his expression soft as he picked up the glass, holding it while she drank. "Where, exactly does it hurt when you laugh?" he asked.

"Well it feels like its everywhere but apparently its my abdomen. I think he kinda kicked me pretty hard in the stomach when I was trying to get away, also possibly an effect of being shot while in my hydro state." Rhi took a grateful sip of the water and closed her eyes for a moment.

Ryan nodded, then lowered his hand over her stomach. He closed his eyes, focusing on the effect he wanted to have on her nerves, and gently poured energy onto her. The sensation was warm, but also had the effect of numbing her pain receptors. He kept at it for several moments, until he finally stopped, sitting back down. "That should buy you about a half hour of pain-free laughing at least. just don't push it, ok? You're numb, not healed," he said with a smile.

Rhi's stomach felt warm and it did feel less achy, she raised an eyebrow and smiled at Ryan.

"So you fly, have the super awesome charisma, healing hands and your not totally heinous to look at naked.. what else do you have?"
