Sept 25, Morning: Office of Lumis

Winston shuffled over to the counter, where Lumis' secretary was seated. He now had a large swelling bruise that covered the left side of his jaw and his hands were still covered in dirt from the events in the Quad, as he'd decided it might be best to avoid the showers.

"Uh, hi, I mean excuse me M'am, is it possible for me to see...the guy I'm meant to see?"

Denise nods, and sends Winston in, letting him know that he's right on time.

Domanic is at his desk, typing something up. He hits the enter key, and closes up the monitor, folding it down into the desk.

"Mr. Sharpe, I believe you chose the codename Bombard, or at least that's what you put down on your student application."

"Come in, take a seat."

"Uh, yes, thank you sir." Winston said as he scratched his head and took up the seat facing Lumis, "I thought it fit, I can change it if you want though."

"I usually prefer to refer to people by their Mutant name, but my guess is that in your case, you see it more as a code-name than your actual name. If I'm wrong, then I'll be happy to call you Bombard. But we're not here to discuss your name."

Lumis leans forward and looks at William with calm yellow, glowing orbs. "Tell me your side of the story."

"About what happend in the Showers? Yea, ok, well, as you might be able to guess I went in there for a shower, noone else was in there just me. Then Kelly, the bird-guy walks in, I don't notice him until he turns on the shower next to me, I open my eyes turn around and get a faceful of feathers, right? So now I ask him what he's doing, hitting me with his wing, he starts saying things in french, I tell him I don't speak French and then he goes and slaps me with his wing again.

So I tell him I'm not going to stand for that kind of action, when two other guys walk in, one of whom tears out one of the shower walls and states he's going to crush me, then Kelly taunts me, in english and to my face he taunts me.

Admittedly I shouldn't have thrown the first punch, but they had worked me up, I didn't want to be pushed around on my first day, if I'd known it would've devolved into what it did I probably wouldn't have even spoken to him to start off with, but it did and the robot guy started electricuting me and the giant guy was throwing walls at me, walls sir, huge giant blocks of rock he was tossing them at me, I could've died, infact I really think he wanted to kill me, I mean how would he know my power lets me absorb kinetic energy, he wouldn't know, I could've died in there.

I did try and run sir, but they were blocking the exit and that burn on giant-mans back, it was from an attempt to topple him so I could escape, honest, I didn't want to cause any serious damage, I just wanted to show them that I was no pushover so that hopefully they wouldn't do something like that again.

Ok, admittedly I shouldn't have thrown the first punch, but I was on edge, I'd been worked up and I'd been insulted, I don't think I was thinking straight and now, I'd like to apologise for my actions, Mr...um... ha, I'm sorry I don't know if I caught your name, sir."

"I'm Lumis. Acting President of the University." William may have heard of Lumis via the school of course, or from Lumis' former career as an X-Man. Alternately, from a number of anti-human publications where Lumis often publishes essays.

"The more I hear about this incident, the more it seems like a comedy of errors, albeit less funny than problematic. I certainly don't want you to get pushed around, but at the same time, I think you could stand to be more tolerant. This is a multi-national school, French is not the last foriegn language you're going to hear."

"Getting up in arms about someone replying to you in a language other than English is probably never going to help any situation. Many students here do not have English as a first language."

"Uh, yes, thank you, I understand that, I spoke to him in English first though, I'd presume he would've taken the hint and replied in English too, but yea, yes sir, I understand my mistake, it won't happen again." Winston bowed slightly as he spoke.

Lumis smiles. "We're not done here. Understand, I'm not angry at you. I'm not excited that there was a fight that destroyed a bathroom in one of the dorms, but I'm here to fix the problem, not the blame. Why did you get angry and confrontational, instead of just ignoring Osprey and finishing your shower?"

"Ah, well," Winston paused for a moment, "Well, I'd been having a pretty stressed out day most of yesterday, thing's hadn't been doing too well for me and as I said, I acted rashly as I didn't want this to pile up, I didn't want people to think they could step on the new guy and I know I shouldn't have been thinking that, but that's what my mind kinda lept to. I'm glad you're not angry, that's good and yea, this won't happen again."

Lumis nods. "Remember, we're all mutants here. We are vastly different people who are nonetheless bound by the common thread of our X-Gene. There will be frictions, of course, but you're an adult, just like the rest of the students. If you find yourself getting angry, ready to unleash your power on someone, take a deep breath. Ask yourself if it's worth it."

"After all, would you rather be the world's next Beast or the world's next Sabertooth? You have a good chance here to become a leader in the mutant community."

He looks directly into Winston's eyes, with a very serious expression on his face. "Can I count on you to show us what you're made of?"

"Um, yes?" He paused and stared at the expression on Lumis' face briefly before smiling, "Yes sir, you can."

"Alright, get out of here then." Lumis' face relaxes to a more friendly expression. "Next time I see you in here I want it to be for something exceptional you did."

Dom motions for him to take a seat. "You wanted to discuss the Napliotis case?"

"Yes. From what I hear I'm probably the only friend she has. I have to know what's going to be done to her."

"She's going to be kept in Secure Holding until we see some kind of conclusive sign of rehabilitation. Her current behavior suggests that might take a very long time."

"We can. We don't strictly need to prove it, but I felt it was important to have an evidence log all the same. At the moment she shows no remorse at all, so I'm forced to conclude that she would simply commit the same or similar acts if she was released."

"Therefore, we can't release her until that's no longer the case."

"Legally a trial isn't required. And what would it accomplish anyway? Any legal entity that has the means and such to put on a trial has no means to keep her captive. It would be a sham, and I prefer that mutants not end up in human courts as it is."

"We have a record of the victim's statement. We have a record of the perpetrator's confession, with no attempt at coercion. We have physical and psychic evidence to support the accusation. A trial would only waste everyone's time."

Shortly after leaving Anita, Ryan showed up in the waiting room outside Lumis's office. He gave Denise a friendly smile as he entered. "Hi. When the Boss Man has a couple spare minutes, I need to talk to him. Debriefing from last night's Vampire run-in."

Denise shows Ryan in. Dom is looking at some kind of strange hologram, just a lot of dots and shapes in a big shimmering field.

He looks over at Ryan. "Seraph, I thought you might be coming to see me. What can I do for you?"

"A couple things, sir. First and most obvious, I'm sure the med staff told you that Anita and I got jumped by vamps in the city last night. What they didn't know to tell you was that we ran into a new flavor of vampire... three of the vamps last night had wings and could fly."

The next point, though, obviously made him somewhat uncomfortable. "Sir, how much authority do I have as team leader when my team isn't on a mission?"
