Staring at the Sea: Monday, September 4th

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

"She is afraid." Mariuset said, moving even closer "I do not think that she will harm us. And she may be in danger herself."

"Is she injured?"

The sea lion seems unharmed but spooked. It lets out a scared bark and that's when two harpoons are fired from somewhere beneath the waves, aimed to the left and right of Mariuset with a netspread between them.

Oh FUCK no you don't, you scaly bastards. "Stay back from the water," Ryan told Veronica. "Please." His v wings burst into light, and with one flap he surged forward toward the attack.

And so she backs up. She wasn't about to get in the middle of this consider she had absolutely no way of helping. She makes her way behind a larger rock she finds and peeks out from behind it, watching. Just let them do their thing. Don't get in the middle of it.

Mariuset screamed, as the net caught her, then took a deep breath and let loose a jet of flame, aimed at the center of the net.

The net seems to be somewhat made with that in mind in that it doesn't immediately burst into flames, but it certainly begins to smolder. Meanwhile the Lemurians who are likely somewhere beneath the waves begin to reel in their catch.

Ryan homed in on the ropes that were dragging the net back, and went into a dive. He went to snag the ropes, intending to use his speed and the thrust of his powers to drag everything, net, Mari, and the Lemurians skyward... at least far enough to get the Lemurians into view.

There seems to be quite a significant amount of resistance in the lines. He manages to lift up Mariuset's side but the lines running into the water drag on him significantly. A little further out in sea a small spray of water is thrown into the air as a large shape surfaces briefly.

Veronica watches from behind the rock, her face set with worry. She wanted to watch not because she wanted to see things happening, but because she wanted to shout warnings if she saw the chance. It was her own way of contributing if she could. She took that chance quickly when she saw the shape in the distance.

"Somesing is coming! Furser out!" She calls out, trying to help.

The net certainly had some weakspots thanks to her flames but it's still tough to really tear a hole into it that's big enough for a person. Meanwhile the small humpback whale tries to pull Ryan out of the air.

Ryan swore, then grabbed the other side of one of the weak spots, flying away from the humpback (despite if he was still being dragged toward the water) to try to use their combined opposing force of motion to help rip open the net. Knife. Always carry a knife from now on.

Between the fire smoldering away at the net and Ryan's tug of war with a whale the net slowly begins to tear until enough fabric has snapped that the whole thing is ripped apart and Mariuset goes tumbling towards the muddy ground.

Ryan dove to catch Mari, hoping that he either had enough time or that the mud was soft enough. "Go limp, grab for me!" he shouted.

Vivienne came running up the hillside having seen and heard a whale, Caledfwlch in hand. She stopped just under Mariuset and slammed her sword into the ground. A geyser erupted from the earth in an attempt to catch the falling girl in the event Ryan failed.

Relief washes over Veronica as she sees that Mari is in good hands and *hopefully* won't landing hard on the ground. She watches to see where the net lands.

Ryan saw the geyser and let it slow Mari's fall before he snagged her, the better to not jerk her arm off with. He came into a partial landing, setting her down in the mud as he reached into his pocket for the rebreather he'd been keeping on him on patrols since the last Lemurian run-in. "Get back to shore," he said. "It's time for another shot at getting some answers." He gave Vivien a nod of thanks as he took a deep breath and put the rebreather into his mouth.

Ryan hesitated. He didn't like letting anyone else run into danger (and he had a feeling that after this was over, Vivien would have nothing good to say about anything he'd done), but he didn't know at all what waited for him in the water. "If there are too many, we pull back," he told her. "Not worth taking too many risks driving them off when they can't breathe out of the water. And we need whoever seems to be in charge alive."

Vivienne nodded as the geyser diminished and the water moved around her forming watery full plate armor. "I will follow your lead."

"I'll try to get behind them and draw their attention. You flank them."

He took another deep breath, then put the rebreather in his mouth again. His wings tucked in tight behind him, he took to flying, skimming the water a ways before dropping into it, hoping that he was behind the Lemurian lines.

From hos top-down view Ryan would be able to see the humpback whale, fitted with some kind of harness, slowly heading towards the open sea. Faint shadows indicate that at least a number of Lemurian are swimming alongside the huge beast.

Vivienne would be able to see them a little better but the water is muddy. Still, at least 4 distinct humanoid shapes are swimming away from her and the shore.

Ryan dove into the water at the closest of the Lemurians, aiming an elbow at the middle of its back. He couldn't out-swim a lemurian... but he COULD fly, which worked reasonably as well in water as in air, now that he didn't have to rely on his wings for it.

Vivienne moved cautiously, walking through the water as it parted around her. She was attempting to move as close as possible while keeping watch on those in front of her hoping to identify the leader of the group.

It doesn't look like any of them are wearing anything identifying a leader. They seem to be unaware of Vivienne at least, especially when Ryan dives into the water and slams into one of them. The water breaks the impact a little bit but the Lemurian still seems like he was at least dazed, slowly sinking down towards the bottom of the sea.

Ryan followed up with a blast at the guy to make sure he really was out of the fight before he turned to the next Lemurian. He wasn't about to waste too much time. Even with the tiny rebreather and his own tolerance for thin oxygen conditions, he couldn't stay underwater indefinitely.

Vivienne watched for signs of leadership among those that remained. As she did she softly spoke as she pointed her sword towards the fallen, " Caledfwlch yn dod allan a darostyngwch." A tall humanoid figure consisting of crystal clear water slowly formed and moved quickly to the Lemurian. The figure moved to subdue and take the fallen fighter captive.

One of the remaining Lemurians seems to finally notice Vivienne and raises a smaller harpun-launcher at her, firing. Meanwhile the other two seem to swim up to the whale and hang on to it's harness as the creature dives, it's massive tail aimed at Ryan.
