"Still, the whole operation they're running is far too low-class for me. Too bad she didn't take my counter offer, though."

"That she defect. My mother left some business opportunities for me to take advantage of when I grew up, and I need people who can be ruthless and, occasionally, shady." She shrugged. "I didn't expect her to take the offer. But she didn't keep me prisoner, and she didn't seem totally comfortable with what was going on, so I figured I'd extend the courtesy, too."

"Well, she wouldn't turn on them. So who knows. I do know that she thinks that some of the less worthy vampires need to get weeded out." She shrugged. "She said 'no', though, so it's all academic anyway."
