In Dee's lab, a signal attempts to communicate with the outside world.

After sending Dee a quick email informing her of this Ashlie sends her robot chassis into the lab to investigate while she tries to determine the nature of the signal.

The signal is coming from an envelope marked "Stark Industries" and appears to be attempting to feed location information somewhere.

Ah, that was the RFID chip we picked up at the expo. Stark's people said they didn't recognize it. If it's transmitting, I want to know what.

A cursory examination of the signal showed it seemed to be transmitting location data based on the chip's current location using a combination of wi-fi sourcing and simple GPS receiving. This was strange as it didn't currently have an obvious power source. It didn't seem to be intended for a specific receiver though, just shotgunning the information to anyone or anything that would listen.

Blocking the signalling wasn't a terribly difficult operation as it wasn't very sophisticated in that regard. A few moments after being in close contact with the chip though, ASHLIE would note a tiny power drain on her chassis' systems. It didn't impair functioning noticeably, but it seemed to be powering the chip.

She gingerly picks up the chip, starting to feel it out.

As soon as Dee removed it, the power drain on ASHLIE's systems stopped, but its attempts to broadcast did not. There were no extraterrestrial materials in it. Several of the materials were alloyed in very strange ways.

It was apparently now somehow extracting power from Dee. This muted it's broadcast somewhat, but it was still vainly battering its transmission against ASHLIE's blocking.

Dee closes her eyes, trying to feel out the construction of the thing and mentally comparing it to technologies she's familiar with.

It was similar in construction to something a company named Levragen had theorized was possible, but she'd never heard of any working prototypes coming out of the company before it folded.

Levragen was incorporated by Andrew Caine. He was still CEO when it collapsed. Most of the assets were liquidated to pay creditors. The patents were not sold, but went to one of the creditors, a man named Michael O'Dell. A search for that individual would indicate that a Michael O'Dell was currently serving time in a maximum security facility.

O'Dell's rap sheet ran everything from misdemeanors to big guns like human trafficking. There were also records that he'd been charged with things like murder, but the evidence had been insufficient. The case that finally got him appeared to be trafficking in mutants for prostitution. There was also record of a civil suit brought against him by X-Corp's legal department on behalf of the victims. Lead counsel was listed as Allison Rogers.
