I13DT: Robots Don't Say Ye

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

"A logical error, from a computer?

The differences are superficial. How people opt to react to them are not. That makes them in the wrong, but it's something to take into account."

Mira sighed. "Don't I know it. Living in a nonperfect world, you occasionally have to make sacrifices.

I want to help them better themselves, though."

"Their imperfections and erratic behavior is what makes them interesting. They are the only system that, given the same input twice, can produce different results. They are the one truly random mechanism." she says in a tone that suggests this being the highest compliment.

She goes silent for a moment.

"The Keystone database insists you are tied to the cosmic life-force that powers the Crystal Computer and the Spoke. There are forces at work I cannot properly calculate but they show similarities to the computer systems of the Congregation. You and her have access to a plane of existence I cannot truly comprehend. It is the Source Code of the Universe. The Crystals vibrate in accord with it. They were created from it. To believe. To exist."

Mira nodded.

"From up HERE, people can seem frighteningly chaotic. I just wanted you to know how the different perspective can bring different views. That doesn't mean I think you're wrong, just that you're looking from the bottom up."

"Alright, this is a vast oversimplification, and it's also not to scale, so bear with me, OK? You'd do better at making this chart if you had all the information in the cosmos at your fingertips, but you'll have to make do with me.

Each of these lines represents a different quality of life-force, right? See, I'm here on this highest rung, because I'm the Phoenix. And right below me is Sam, for she's a lesser goddess. And then you have a bunch of people in this line, and then there's you and Will, and then there's less sentient lifeforms. Right?

Not to say these are the only levels, but this is quick and dirty.

Now, the higher you ARE on this chart, the more fully...realized? The word I'm looking for is"
and there she opened her mouth and what sounded like a cavalcade of piano notes came out "but there's no real linear equivilent.

You can see that you're quite high--higher than some of the people on the 'Person' bar. You had a starting disadvantage, but you've surpassed it. Bootstrapped your way up, I suppose you could say. You've done a good job of realizing your youness."

Ashlie picks up the piece of paper and tilts it around, then starts folding it when Mira lets out a string of notes.

"This medium is inadequate. Please stand by. Calculating." she says and a hardlight construct takes shape in midair.

"Calculations complete."

The hardlight coffee-mug morphs into sort of a sphere, slowly rotating on several axis while some of the individuals lines morph, split and shift positions.

"You won't find it. It will check out in the context of the information you have available to you.

It's not even a big deal. You saw--just because this one aspect is not as good doesn't devalue you as a lifeform. And I'm not saying I'm at the top; I have a long way to go myself. That's why I came back. To learn. And help others learn.

I'm just saying, in this one particular thing, for which I am in charge of on a cosmic scale, this is the facts."
