I13DT - Always Two There Are

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

"Violence has its application. There are a few people I need to apply it to." She moved to look closer at the patterns on the wall. "Must be nice to have a deity choose you. Makes some things easier."

"She didn't answer me until I'd been praying to her for a while, but it does make it much easier to have faith. I do tend to have an edge in knowing my path through life."

"Not by a long shot. Though not all are as powerful as others. Some used to be but faded into obscurity, others recur in different ways as times change. Some predate humans, others seem born out of our subconsciousness, our superstitions and beliefs. And not all of them are benevolent."

"There are plenty of books out there and there's probably some truth in most of them, but there are also a lot of wrong things out there. Books about mythology and legends tend to be better about it than ones claiming to teach you about a world-view."

She traces her fingers along one line in the pattern, choosing branches as she moves through the pattern. "So when in doubt, ask you?" She smiled.

"Oh, no. I fully intend to make up my own mind. But you said there's only *some* truth in what I'd be reading. I don't know that I'm in a position to sort out the truth from the... well, not outright lies, but misunderstandings?"

"Stick to History and Mythology then and keep in mind a lot of it was passed down orally before it was written down and that none of them are the absolute literal truth. Some of it I'm sure will be covered in your regular classes as well as part of ancient history."

"It does. If you follow it back long enough across the floor it's the one that splits off from one of these." she says, pointing out a line that does intersect with the one Miranda traced. "It's a future that had to happen in order for us to avoid it. The headaches precognition can give you get much worse when time-travel is involved."

"I would think time travel is a head ache all its own even when precognition isn't involved," she said, turning to study the line Nailah had pointed out.

"That's true." she says. Meanwhile the line she's following makes a couple twists and turns, passes through an area that appears to be partially eroded, the line barely visible. Beyond that it seems to almost violently run off into a different direction, disappearing in the shadows. Visions of violence and fear seem to emanate from them somehow, clearly not part of the simulation but rather Miranda's power flaring up in reaction to tracing a representation of Nailah's timeline.

She nods and one scenic flight later they're back at the banks of the river.

"So, state of mind aside that you try to put yourself in, personally I find it helps if I have something to express my visions in. A medium of sorts. None of them are intrinsically better than others, but you might find that you have a certain affinity to some, simply out of personal preference. I'm a Linguist, so as you've seen mine often take the shape of poems or words. Occasionally I sketch them and someone gifted me a hand-crafted deck of Tarot cards." she says, motioning at her journal and a small wooden box that presumably holds the Tarot cards. "But what ultimately matters is that you feel comfortable in the medium you chose. It doesn't have to be necessarily artistic either. Ouija Boards, pendulums, crystal balls, scrying bowls, mirrors, even if some have some more... mystical applications, they can still work as a focus."

"Of course." she says, handing the box to her. The cards inside all appear to be hand-drawn, featuring some people she may be familiar with from around the school and her rescue (such as Will Stanton being The Fool), others she probably wouldn't recognize.

Miranda sorted through them quietly for a moment, scrutinizing a few cards before holding one up of a red-headed woman with ravens. "This?" She sounded a little uncertain.

Miranda put the card back in and fanned the deck out, face side down. She looked at the cards for a long moment, "I see several possibilities, depending on where you take from the deck."
