"No, no entirely my fault," she said earnestly, managing to fumble the blindfold back into place. "I meant the collar."

"Right, of course, the collar...hrm.

Do you happen to know if these things are booby-trapped in some way, before I poke and prod?"

"I..." She sat down a little dejectedly. "I don't know... I don't think so since they always took it off before working on me, but am I sure? No..."

"Right. Better safe than sorry. This may feel a little weird for a moment," Will said, slipping between the bars.

He put his hands around Miranda's throat, gently, and then oozed clay inbetween her flesh and the collar itself.

He then expanded rapidly, which would shatter the collar.

A wave of discomfort, akin to having bright lights turned on you when you're in a darkened room, washes out from Miranda, but she quickly manages to reign it in. "Thank you," she said, rubbing her neck. She looked directly at Will and immediately attempted to hug him.

Will took a quarter-step back, but returned the hug. "It's alright. You're going to be safe.

Just as soon as I can get this darn door open."

Steph nodded, shifting to human form to be a bit less imposing.

"Just remember we're the ones offering to get you out of the jail you're in now. Think that's a rather compelling reason to trust us for now."

Miranda let Will go. "You're the first ones who've offered to remove the collar immediately. That's enough for me."

"I'm not seeing any sign of keys around here," Steph said returning after a sweep of the place. "Think you can make yourself a key again, or should I just rip the door open?"

"I see," Will said. "I mean, I understand. I mean...yeah, I'm gonna go talk to Steph now, one second."

"I dunno, Steph, it seems pretty complex. I've been trying to pick the dang thing for a few minutes now. Might be better to blow it up--though there has to be someway to open it naturally. I mean, they must take them out occasionally...right?"

"Did we bring explosives? We unfortunately left the girl who can make them at will guarding the school."

"If you think you can get them out safely," Will nodded. "I'm just worried about booby-traps. These aren't nice people who would give their captives a free chance at escaping.

This entire thing smells funny to me."

"If they were trapped well, you playing with the keyhole might have set them off..." she mused, looking around and sniffing deeply, trying to see if she could smell any strange chemicals--explosive, noxious or otherwise.

"We could--" sniff sniff "--try and use you as a human shield again..."

No chemical smell, but a weird, electric buzz.

"You DO know how to please a guy, don't you?" Will teased. "Alright, I'll be your blast shield, if you want to try."

Charles looked over at Miranda.

"Maybe," Charles said, "I could try... spraying acid on it or maybe if I made myself some armor?"

"I meant protecting them not me. I can heal. But if you," she turned to Charles, "have acid or a force field, that may work better or help me with the breaking."

"Sorry, I'm not sure how I'd make force fields," Charles said, "But I could do acid, blades, and armor during their tests... most of the time at least."

Charles stepped towards Will so that the X-Man could remove the collar. In the back of his mind he was just hoping that if this was a test at least he'd shown the researchers what he could do.

"Thanks for this," Charles said, "Just let me know when you want to start, eh."

What happened next was probably a little horrifying if you weren't expecting it. Charles' throat and head began to change shape before approaching a more fleshy version of this with only two eyes. The cracking of flesh and bone as he shifted probably didn't help much with the disturbing part of things either as the shift spread giving his skin a almost chitin like appearance.

He then vomited a viscous purple substance onto the lock

Charles turned his head towards Miranda and the response was unintelligible chittering. The shifting progressed, unintentionally, and the hospital gown tore as the carapace like coloration became a hardened projected bone like substance along with extra limbs.

...Damn...

Miranda focused for a moment and then thought in the general vicinity, Charles? Of course, as unskilled as she was, everyone likely 'heard' it.

Charles chittered again and made an approximation of a nod.

Miranda? How?

He sounded more than a little confused that there was an eerily familiar voice in his head.

Oh? Cool, sorry you've become the middle man here. Having problems shifting back...
