I13: The Old Days were Easier

Up until recently maintained as a museum, the childhood home of the Braddock family has been pressed into service as additional housing and classroom space for the Institute. Additionally, the increased demands have led to the main ballroom being converted into a cafeteria for both the Institute and those University students on a meal plan. Student reactions have been mixed, and reports of paranormal activity are as of yet unsubstantiated.

I13: The Old Days were Easier

Roland stormed through the manor, shrugging his way though the number of students who WEREN'T at this moment kidnapped.

Occasionally he paused, and then kicked a nearby ottoman, cursing in languages none of the students (probably) knew.

Mahua had agreed to act as den mother in the manor for the time being. "Abusing ottomans is therapeutic?" She asked, approaching Roland from behind.

"Riding out? As in to dispatch some vigilante justice on whatever crosses their path?" Mahua crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow.

"How hard can it possibly be to track these people. Someone must have seen it, there is likely a battle going on--instead, they waste time dusting cobwebs and debating motive."

"So you don't believe that understanding why someone does something can tell you more about what they might do in the future?" Mahua was somewhat obviously trying to distract him.

"This is applied philosophy, Professor. They're trying to narrow their search area. They could waste a lot of effort charging around blindly. I'm as worried about the kids as you are, but let them do what they do best. Just because it doesn't look like much doesn't mean they're doing nothing."

"You have machines here that can do simply impossible things--it shouldn't take longer now than it did in the past.

If someone was missing, you'd ride out. There would be trails, witnesses, motives. People would declare their intentions up front...

This is just...horrible."

This is partially my fault, you realize? The last time I saw Hal...some of the students, they stormed off. I was chaperoning, and now look."

Mahua led the way to the cafeteria where it looked like she'd swiped the smaller coffee maker from the teachers' lounge rather than try to figure out how to work the big ones in the cafeteria. She poured Roland a cup, handing it to him. "Funny how the high schoolers get to you when you never expected they would, right?"
