I12DT: Carrying Quite a Bit of Baggage

[Molly Malcolm]

Molly was dropped off in front of the manor, with the driver unloading all of her luggage (consisting of several bags, trunks, and boxes) in front of the steps leading up to the manor.

Molly proceeded to wait patiently for help to arrive, sitting on one of the trunks and reading a book.

[Kay Haddock]

"Eesh, that's a lot of bags." Kay says, having spotted the new arrival on her way back from the danger room, her hair still wet despite the weather.

[Molly Malcolm]

"I hope it's not too much. I just didn't want to have to build a whole new wardrobe when I got here."

"I honestly feel a little bad for the porter," Molly says, "Or at least, I would if they weren't so late."

[Kay Haddock]

"Uhnm, yeah, there's no porter."

[Molly Malcolm]

Molly groans, "Really? That sucks."

With a heavy sigh, Molly closes her book.

"Well, thanks for telling me," Molly says, "I probably looked like an idiot sitting out here."

[Kay Haddock]

"Why would a school have a porter?" Kay asks, already starting to decide that she doesn't like this girl.

[Molly Malcolm]

"The last boarding school I was at had a full staff," Molly says, starting to collect two of her bags, "I just assumed, I guess. I didn't realize that it would be such a step down..."

"Again, thank you..." Molly says, waiting for Kay to introduce herself.

[Kay Haddock]

"Kay." she just says, finally settling on not-being-an-ass and taking at least one of the bags to help.

[Molly Malcolm]

"I'm Molly," Molly says, "And you don't have to worry about that. It's not your job."

"Although, I could use someone to show me to my room. If you don't mind playing tour guide."

[Kay Haddock]

"Yeah, I guess. The mansion can be a little confusing."

[Molly Malcolm]

"It's not so bad," Molly says, "My aunt married a hedge fund manager with this completely ridiculous place in the Hamptons. Every time I've visited, I've gotten completely lost. I swear M.C. Escher designed that place."

"So, were you swimming in the pool?" Molly asks, her tone a bit unsure. I mean, the water in the ocean seemed like it would be cold this time of year, but Kay did look rather...aquatic.

[Kay Haddock]

"Well not in the pool." she says, deciding to ignore Molly's lovely story about money and family that isn't shitty.

[Molly Malcolm]

"Wow, that's intense," Molly says, "Although, I suppose you're practically made for that sort of thing."

[Kay Haddock]

Here we go.

"Yeah, pretty much. What do you do?"

[Molly Malcolm]

"I have a perfect sense of fashion," Molly jokes, "Also, I can fly."

[Kay Haddock]

Why do some people get to have all the luck?

"That's great. I hear flying is awesome."

[Molly Malcolm]

"It's alright," Molly says with a shrug, "I'm not sure it's worth...well, you know."

[Kay Haddock]

"Worth what?"

[Molly Malcolm]

"You know...people making fun of you all the time," Molly says, "It's hard to put up with that sort of thing."

[Kay Haddock]

"Oh yeah, I bet that's really terrible."

[Molly Malcolm]

"I know, right," Molly says, obviously oblivious, "I was one of the popular kids and everything. I never thought..."

"...I never thought everyone would just...turn on me like that."

[Kay Haddock]

"Yeah I bet that sucked, didn't it?"

[Molly Malcolm]

"It really did," Molly says, "Thanks. You're a really good listener. Plus, you're like, the first person I've met that would understand."

[Kay Haddock]

"Oh gee, thanks. I'd almost managed to forget that not everyone is an asshole about how I look."

[Molly Malcolm]

"Ummm...right..." Molly says, a bit confused. Why was this girl mad at her?

[Kay Haddock]

"Anyway..." Kay mumbles. "The classrooms are down this hall, past the big stairs on the right is the dining hall and you can go to the gardens from there. Library is down this hall and all the dorms are on the second floor."

[Molly Malcolm]

"That's cool," Molly says, "How many kids are here?"

[Kay Haddock]

"A bunch. Dunno how many exactly."

[Molly Malcolm]

"And what do you do for fun?" Molly asks, "Maldon seems sort of....quaint."

[Kay Haddock]

"Maldon's nice. They got a movie theater and a couple cafes and shops. We got a rec center with a pool and a gym. The danger room's pretty cool but you only get a bit of time per week to train with your powers. I think there's a club in town that does youth events with garage bands and stuff."

[Molly Malcolm]

"Oh, well that sounds nice," Molly says in the tone of a person really, really trying to be polite.

[Kay Haddock]

"Well just drive to London if you want something in particular."

[Molly Malcolm]

"Good point. I hadn't thought of that," Molly admits, "Do you get out to London often?"

[Kay Haddock]

"Not really. It takes, like, 90 minutes one way with the bus."

[Molly Malcolm]

"We should totally go," Molly says, sounding excited, "There's this great little boutique there with the cutest knitwear. Perfect for this time of year."

[Kay Haddock]

"Yeah, that's great." she says, suddenly feeling very conscious of the fact that Molly probably thinks she's in workout clothes or something and not just her regular get-up. "Maybe when I've saved up some money for Christmas-shopping."

[Molly Malcolm]

"Oh, I'm sorry," Molly says, "I didn't realize..."

[Kay Haddock]

"Yeah. My parents kicked me out when people started throwing fish-heads at our windows."

[Molly Malcolm]

"That's awful!" Molly says, sounding appalled.

[Kay Haddock]

"Guess that's Flint for you. So now the school pays for my books and stuff but that's about it."
