Steel yourself!

The Estate's meticulously kept gardens, including a hedgemaze that students have occasionally described as "sadistic" and a sizeable rose garden. Benches in shaded spots are plentiful, and the gardens are popular to study in on pleasant days.

"I... I don't know," Alex said, shifting back. "What's it made of?" he asked, reaching for it.

"Wait, what?" Alex asked as he took the sword. "It feels like- oh holy SHIT!" He had never managed to sync to anything that quickly. It was almost as if the sword WANTED him to bond with it. The feel of it, though, was amazing. He could feel the energy of the sword, now in his own body, energy that he knew could be used, but he was damned if he knew how. He could feel it building seething, permeating everything...

With a gasp and a shudder, he tossed it down, trying to shift back to his human form. "Holy jesus, what is that..."

Regan felt the weirdest sense of doubling all of the sudden. Her eyes hurt as she tried to sort out an added sensory input that had her looking at herself looking at Alex.

Jesus McFuckface.

"The hell!?" Regan managed to say when she finally managed to get her head in order.

"I don't know! I just... hell, I didn't think it would work! Most metals don't!" He shuddered, reaching for a chunk of steel. He tried to sync with it, only to feel it turning to the same metal he was. "Oh dammit, that wasn't what I was trying to do..."

"This is what I get for trying to be nice," Regan says, "A migraine."

Conflicting emotions were at war in Regan. She felt confused, annoyed, weirded out, full of self-loathing and bitterness (well, that checked out at least), a little bit excited, and maybe sort of hungry?

"Okay, just...stop...feeling for a second," Regan says, "Otherwise I think I'm going to vomit. And ghosts can't really vomit but damn it I would find a way."

"Yeah, okay," Alex said, and he would have taken a deep breath, but metal men didn't breathe. "Just... relax. Not a big deal. Just... different, right? Everything's cool." He tried to calm down, idly manipulating the chunk of... whatever he was, that he was holding. It did always help relax him, after all.

"Okay," Regan says. After a few incidents with the ring, Ms. Valentine had taught her how to block things out. Or tried to at least. Regan was a difficult student.

Now, she was relying on half remembered lessons to try to fix whatever the hell was going on.

"Okay," Regan says, "I think I'm good."

And that's when she doubled over and vomited a mixture of black tar and ectoplasm all over the lawn.

And similarly, Alex started vomiting what appeared to be iron shavings all over his side of the bushes.

"I... think... well that... happened," he gasped, more on reflex than need of air. ANd that was when he managed to shift back. And realized that ghost vomit did, indeed, touch him. "Oh god, gross..."

"I wonder how..." Regan mumbled, half-distracted for a moment before shaking her head, "Our thoughts are all mixed up together. Try focusing on one thing that we don't have in common."

Regan focuses on...well...the experience of dying.

...It's a unique experience!

Alex shuddered, momentarily dragged out of his focusing on turning into a different metal... but that sensation was so alien and horrible that he managed to tear himself away, focusing on himself as he jammed his hand into his bag of metal, his fingers closing around the troy ounce of silver he had in there, and feeling rather amazed when he managed to turn into it. Whoa... Never managed this before...

Alex looked her over, and it was rather obvious the various questions that were going through his mind about her. And it was just as obvious when he dismissed them as 'none of his damned business'.

Though perhaps it was a bit more obvious to Regan than most. "Seriously didn't think that would work. What kind of metal was that?"
