Vito was a ship's captain for a long time, sailing across the Atlantic Ocean on a regular basis. From the colonies and the Carribean, he would gather sugar, which he would have distilled back home in England for rum. The rum, and other manufactured goods, were then shipped down to Africa, where Vito then bartered them for...human cargo.
The slaves were shipped to the Carribean for sugar, and so the trade continued.
Vito did this for almost forty years before his ship was lost in a storm in the Carribean, with all hands and cargo.
