Back To Nature

The Estate's meticulously kept gardens, including a hedgemaze that students have occasionally described as "sadistic" and a sizeable rose garden. Benches in shaded spots are plentiful, and the gardens are popular to study in on pleasant days.

"Would have offered if I minded," Mary Ann said, standing and dusting herself off. "Just give me a moment to get myself into the right frame of mind." She took several moments of deep breathing and then exploded in a wave of fur and muscle, leaving the giant bear in her place again, standing on its hind legs.

Brigid gave a reasonably enthusiastic thumbs-up to Mary Ann before going to climb on.

She dropped to all fours and squatted down to let Brigid climb on. Once she was settled, she got up and trundled in the direction of the recreation complex.

Brigid climbed on and settled in for the ride, fidgeting here and there, especially as they passed close to trees.

For her part, Mary Ann steered mostly clear of the trees, though once or twice she veered close to one without thinking. Still, she managed to get Brigid to the pool area in one piece.

Brigid was doing just fine for most of the trip, but at one point they passed close to a tree and the poor girl sneezed.

This would not have been much of a problem if it hadn't been followed by what felt like a full-body spasm, punctuated by puffer fish-like spines emerging over most of her body.

This likely was less than pleasant to Mary Ann.

Mary Ann jerked and gave a bellowing roar of pain as her instincts took over and she tried to slam what was hurting her into the near-by tree.

Brigid unfortunately did not have the reflexes she normally did.

She was however quite light relative to Mary Ann, and thus did not end up flattened against the tree.

On the other hand, she did end up flung up into the branches, landing amongst them in a tangle.

"...ow."

Mary Ann sniffed, looking for what hurt her. She prowled around the base of the tree, looking from side-to-side.

Mary Ann's ears perked up and she looked up, growling or something that might have passed for a growl in bears.

Mary Ann lunged, trying to scramble up the tree to get at Brigid. Her weight kept her from getting far, but she did end up shaking the tree a bit.

Mary Ann roared in frustration and managing to get a better grip on the tree this time and slowly hauling herself up, much to the tree's apparent consternation.

Branches snapped or groaned as Mary Ann struggled to get her bulk up the tree. The tree too let out a protest, beginning to lean under the added weight as Mary Ann got higher.

Kay had stormed out of the mansion after her fight with Theresa. Usually she would have headed towards the cliff overlooking the sea but right now she didn't feel like watching the waves, she felt like finding a huge branch and wailing on a tree. She'd found the branch but then got distracted by Mary roaring. Make-shift spear in hand she finds herself running in that general direction until she spots the huge bear trying to scramble up the tree. And then her body falling out of said tree.

"The hell... Get away from me! Uhm... her! Shoo!" she runs up to Mary, brandishing her weapon and almost unknowingly preparing herself to brace the big branch against the ground.

Mary Ann roared at Kay, almost as if to say "My fish, back off." She swiped at the branch with paw, missing it by a wide margin due to being a little too wary.

"How the heck did you find a... crap, is this Mary?" she asks, flinching at the roar. She's torn between wanting to back off and Brigid's powers telling her to inch forward to drive the giant bear back.

Kay jumps back a bit, not really sure what to do since she doesn't really want to go at it with Mary and get somebody hurt.

"What even happened? And what did you to to my body!?"

Kay first impulse was to get the hell away, but apparently her new instincts decided the better course of action was to use her weapon as a make-shift pole to jump over the charging bear and onto Mary's back.

Given how big Mary's neck was in this form, it was less reins and more of a choke hold. She began reaching up, swiping at the branch trying to dislodge the branch and shaking to try and dislodge Kay. These two approaches did not work well together.
