Communal Kitchen: Cooking for the Masses

Ben had started early on cooking, apparently planning on feeding a small army. He had half a dozen dishes going and the kitchen looked like a bomb had been set off in it.

This was probably in part because Ben was not the most graceful cook.

"Cheese and crackers!" Ben says, knocking over a box of baking soda onto the floor.

Noticing someone's in the kitchen Kay backs up a little after walking by to take a look who it is.

"Oh hey, you're the new one, right? Ben, was it?"

Ben smiles up at Kay, "That's me. It's awful nice of you to remember, miss."

"Yeah, totally. It sounds like it'll be fun." she says, looking around to figure out what Ben is cooking up and what she could help out with.

Various dishes at various levels of prep were scattered throughout the kitchen. Currently, Ben was working on frying chicken, but there was boiled macaroni waiting to be made into a salad and potatoes that were waiting to be peeled and a battery of pies waiting to be switched in and out of the oven.

"I'm glad," Ben says, "The best way to get to know people is to get 'em all in one place and feed 'em. At least, that's what my nanna used to say."

"Oh yeah, totally!" she says, putting one of the pies in the oven before moving on to the potatoes. "I tried to organize a camping trip back in the US, but that didn't quite work out..."

"Some people got in a fight, there were ghosts in the woods and Theresa didn't even want to come. It was still fun, just not quite as planned."

"Still seems like a lot," Ben says with a smile, "I haven't even met a single ghost."

"Or maybe I'm the weird one. Maybe meeting ghosts is a normal thing once you get to the big cities."

Haley nodded cheerfully and washed up before looking at the macaroni, some of the other ingredients near it and sort of getting what was going to be done with it.

"You have a recipe you're following for the macaroni salad, or just sorta eyeballin' it?"

Ben drops the melon slices into a bowl, "Well, my parents got arrested for refusing to register me. X-Corp sent me here while they're awaiting trial."
