Nash's Room - Darkforce Ankh Research

Up until recently maintained as a museum, the childhood home of the Braddock family has been pressed into service as additional housing and classroom space for the Institute. Additionally, the increased demands have led to the main ballroom being converted into a cafeteria for both the Institute and those University students on a meal plan. Student reactions have been mixed, and reports of paranormal activity are as of yet unsubstantiated.

Nash's Room - Darkforce Ankh Research

Postby Nash Riley » Mon Feb 18, 2013 9:39 pm

Nash was in his room doing some of his homework. The pen he was using was running low on ink so he reached into the front pocket of his backpack to pull out another one. He however found something else first, the darkforce ankh that Mercy had given him earlier that day.

Oh man, how could I forget about that?

Putting off finishing his homework for the moment, he took the ankh out and held it in his hand, trying to see if his powers could make anything of it.

The object remains very heavy in Nash's hand. His power advises him that it is quite durable, both with regards to scratching, and bending/breaking. It has an enormous capacity to absorb heat. It does, however, seem slightly less smooth than it was when he first got it. When Mercy handed the Ankh over, it was so slick to the touch it felt like oiled plastic.

Now, it has enough texture to it that it feels like regular plastic. Nash's power also senses that it's degenerating in some way, but very slowly.

Seeing that it was already degenerating, Nash first tired to see if he could figure out how much longer it would last.

It's hard to say exactly as the rate is slow and Nash hasn't seen the process much yet. For sure a week or two, maybe as much as two months. In any case, it won't be gone quickly.

Nash thinks back to when he touched the semi-liquid form of darkforce before, and though his memory of that isn't the best, he tries to compare it to the solid form he is now holding.

The liquid form didn't seem to be anything. It kept giving conflicting and contradictory measures. This however, seems to be much more solid and purposed. The liquid form felt raw, elemental, and alien. This has a sense of purpose to it, like a well crafted item, and seems much more like a solid, real object. With the liquid stuff it was hard to tell if it even was really there, or just some kind of bizarre hallucination.

Considering both its weight and the limited amount he had to work with, he tries to come up with a way to combine it with real world materials, while hopefully still maintaining some of it properties.

It seems sturdy enough to attach it to nearly anything, it's unclear if adhesives would work but direct physical attachment surely would. With it's capacity to take in heat it would make a good element of some kind of cooling device. Despite the fact that it can take in a lot of heat, it also seems like it might be a good conductor of electricity.

He then remembers what she said last.
“It might be evil, just so you know!”

Surely she was joking, right?

The Ankh does not seem to be evil, per-se. Of course it's not capable of doing anything on its own which puts it out of the running for lots of definitions of evil. In any case Nash doesn't detect any aura of 'evilness'.

Nash decides she was probably joking, or at lest he tries to convince himself that.

He decides to stop for now anyway, and puts the ankh up, placing it in a drawer. He still takes a moment to go over what he learned, to see what he can think of.

The whole degenerating thing is going to be a problem. Getting more darkforce matter from Mercy and doing what ever I need to do to it over and over is going to be a problem. So far the only thing I see exceptional about it is its ability to absorb heat. Various things you could do with that, energy weapon, armor coating, but they would all run into the first problem. I guess I'll have to look more at it later, I do need to get that homework done before tomorrow.

Nash reaches into his backpack and gets out a pen this time and gets back to his homework.
