Stacking Stones

The Estate's meticulously kept gardens, including a hedgemaze that students have occasionally described as "sadistic" and a sizeable rose garden. Benches in shaded spots are plentiful, and the gardens are popular to study in on pleasant days.

"It does, but England really isn't a hockey country," Gideon said, "And it isn't much fun to play a team sport all by yourself, eh? The danger room lets you at least pretend you're playing with other people."

"I'm from Minnesota, so the cold is in my blood."

"You probably wear shorts when it's snowing." she teased.

"Of course," Gideon said, "Pants are reserved for when the temperature drops below 0. As I'm sure there are at least three steer skulls in your house, eh?"

"No, actually, but everything you heard about high school football and how good the barbecue and tex-mex are is true. I miss the food so much..."

"Time to ask your parents for a care package, so you can get a taste of home," Gideon said.

"An even better reason for a care package," Gideon smiled. "Or a trip to London to see what kind of barbecue this country can produce."

Haley scoffed. "Please. London would be cool, but these people eat shit called blood pudding."

"I actually like blood pudding," Gideon said, "And blood sausage is pretty good too. Though I can see why most Americans wouldn't like it very much."

"It is better to remain in the dark on such things," Gideon said, "Helps a great deal when it comes to trying new foods."

"Probably," she smirked. "Even the name squicks me out though. Grossssss."

Haley pulled her knees up to her chin and wrapped her arms around herself to change positions on the ground. "So how can we keep in touch to plan our next meditation sessions and shit? Do you have a cell phone or email or anything? My phone is my baby so it's like with me 24/7."

Gideon chuckled as he pulled a small pad of paper and a pen out of a pocket.

"I'll give you my phone number, room number, and my email address," Gideon said as he jotted a couple things onto a piece of paper. "If you're in trouble you can call me or drop by my room."

Gideon held out the piece of paper to Haley.

Haley accepted the piece of paper with a friendly smile, pulled out her phone and took a picture of it, and then tucked the paper into one of her pockets.

"Thanks Gideon, this means a whole lot."

"Okay," she smiled. "Maybe I'll sleep without any freaky dreams. Am pretty tired..."

Haley pushed herself up and dusted off her jeans.

"Thanks again. I'll text you!" she grinned, turned, and headed back to the mansion.

"I'll be looking forward to it," Gideon said as Haley walked away.

The least I can do to make sure my legacy is not one of bloodshed and misery...

Gideon thought once Haley was a fair distance away.
