[Issue 11] Fish and Fowl

[Kay Haddock]

"Kinda figured since you haven't eaten me yet..." she says and gives a careful wave at Ryan.

[Narrator]

Some distance away, the creature that had been gliding after them landed in a tree, its silhouette evident. It didn't seem to fold its wings when it landed.

[Chloe Grant]

"Who is that?" Chloe said.

[Ryan Gabriel]

"Only one real candidate," Ryan said, looking up. "Toomes! If you haven't gone all weird on us, say something!"

[Narrator]

Realizing he'd been spotted, there was a scurrying in the tree.

The wings themselves didn't move.

[Ryan Gabriel]

"Come on, Vulture! You want to get out of this? Help us!" Ryan called, tracking the movement (and not the wings) with his vision.

[Narrator]

"Shh! Shh!" He protested from behind the tree trunk. "She'll hear!"

[Ryan Gabriel]

Ryan looked around, scanning for the lifeforces he'd seen, looking for any that were getting closer to them.

[Narrator]

This, it seemed, was simple paranoia on the Vulture's part.

[Chloe Grant]

"Who is 'she'?" Chloe asked

[Narrator]

"The sphinx... she tried to take my work once already..."

[Ryan Gabriel]

"She's not here," Ryan said. "No one around except the four of us. I promise. Now come on down, you're a genius, remember? We could use your help."

[Narrator]

"You... you just want to keep me from flying..."

[Chloe Grant]

"Lets get out of here." Chloe said "That matters now."

[Ryan Gabriel]

"Yeah," Ryan said, looking around. It wasn't as easy from the ground, but he tried to pick out the directions to the people/giant animals he'd seen earlier.

[Kay Haddock]

"What if we just keep following the river? It has to lead out of this creek eventually, right?" Kay pipes up, mostly motivated by the fact that her face is already starting to feel dry and itchy just from having her head out of the water for a while.

[Chloe Grant]

"That makes sense." Chloe said "Could you see where the creek goes?" she asked Ryan.

[Narrator]

As Ryan looked, there was a faint glimmer of lifeforces in the distance he hadn't spotted before.

[Ryan Gabriel]

"I... there's someone that way," Ryan said, frowning. "It's... probably worth checking out, but we've got to be careful." Since Kay isn't a combatant, and I don't want Chloe going all nutballs on me...

[Chloe Grant]

"We'll be very careful." Chloe said, with a toothy grin, as the feathers on her head rising up.

[Narrator]

As they walked, something exploded rather loudly in the air above.

[Kay Haddock]

Kay immediately slips under the water at the sound, dashing through the water and behind some rocks.

[Chloe Grant]

"What was that!?!" Chloe squawked, torn between the urge to fight and the urge to run away.
