DT10 - What hurts more...

Postby Derek Scott » Sat Jun 09, 2012 12:59 am

Derek, after a nap, was feeling somewhat more human. So after a long shower, he threw on a pair of jeans and was sitting on the couch, an over-large glass of water with him that he was trying to get down to get himself un-dehydrated.

There was a tapping sound on his window.

Derek looked around for the source of the tapping, then walked into his room to see what it was. Seeing the bird, he sighed, then opened his window. "Come on in," he said, blinking against the open blinds.

Chloe flew over and perched on the back of the couch.

Following her out of the bedroom and into the common area, he sighed and flopped over onto the couch, wincing a little as he leaned his head back. "What's up?" he asked tiredly.

"I wanted to come and see you." Chloe said, shifting into human form. She was wearing her training suit, perhaps to Derek's disappointment.

It was, perhaps, to Derek's disappointment, but he wasn't at all surprised. So, not having much to work with yet, he just nodded. "All right."

"Well you can be," he sighed, closing his eyes a little. "Always been true, don't think it's going to stop."

Derek just sighed, closing his eyes. Well, if you're going to be a sucker again, might as well know you're being a sucker...

Derek forced a smile. "It always makes me happy to spend time with you," he admitted. "I just..." He sighed. "What do you think I'm like, Chloe? I've got this idea that we've got this huge gap between what you think and what's reality here."

"I think that you have a good heart, but you're a bit of a bad boy, always drinking and chasing girls." Chloe said "Very intense, with all that dangerous, thrilling work. I think you like drama and thrills and that you want a girl who doesn't mind being bad. Or at least bad for you."

"I think you're probably the first person who'd ever not answer 'predictable, boring, safe, or convenient,'" he said. "Or 'disposable.'"

"But you aren't boring!" Chloe said "You're quite interesting. And nothing you do is safe. I can't imagine why anyone would want to dispose of you. You're too good a friend."

He shrugged. "I was never a big partier. Always studying, or working, or both... my idea of a great weekend would be to go hiking, maybe camping." He shrugged. "I was the one that was always there to make everything all right when something was wrong. But once everything was all right again?" He shook his head, making a dismissive gesture. "I drink when I'm depressed. And usually it's because I'm lonely." He smiled humorlessly. "Maybe I do chase women. It's only plural because I can't get one to stick around, though."

"Yeah, well, you also met me while I was trying to keep another girl happy by... okay, yeah, it's not like I didn't enjoy being passed between all you guys, but... I dunno, it just felt cheap afterward?" He shook his head. "But... yeah, that probably gave a really... off first impression."

He nodded. "That's why I wasn't pushing it," he said. "I... " He shrugged. "I just... I don't know. I didn't want to push you, but I didn't want you to think that I thought you were just... I don't know. Something cheap or convenient or something like that because you're not."
