DT10 - So far so good...

[Alex Carpenter]

Alex had managed to avoid any drama so far today, which was good. No big evil things attacking the school, no getting ambushed by cute little classmates (she was FOURTEEN, thank god. He'd had to check on that one to keep from feeling dirty), maybe he could actually get through this day all right. Hey, it could happen. And on that note, he headed out into the quad, wanting some fresh air.

[Kay Haddock]

Kay was on her way back from the rec center, as evidenced by her wet hair, when she spots Alex. For a moment she considers giving him a wide berth but then her temper flares up about what she caught him doing and she stomps towards him.

[Alex Carpenter]

Oh. Nevermind, I guess this is happening. "Hey, Kay," he said, wondering what the hell she was going to be getting pissy at him about today.

[Kay Haddock]

"Alex Carpenter, you ass!" she shouts once she's within in shouting distance.

[Alex Carpenter]

"Oh, are we doing this when there's no one to see us being friendly, too, now? You need to let me know these things," Alex shot back, not slowing down as he closed the distance between them.

[Kay Haddock]

"What are you even talking about?" she says and she sounds like she really doesn't get what he means. Not that it matters because she immediately segues into a different topic. "Being an ass to me, fine, whatever. But don't you go and hurt my friends, you hear me."

[Alex Carpenter]

"I mean how you're all nice until wait a minute, what the hell are you talking about?"

[Kay Haddock]

"Brigid! You know she likes you and then you go make out with some twelve-year old!?"

[Alex Carpenter]

Alex froze in midstep. Shitshitshitshitshit... "She's fourt- I mean, what are you talking about?" he said, convincing absolutely none of the studio audience.

[Kay Haddock]

"Oh don't even bother! I saw the two of you in the common room!"

[Alex Carpenter]

"Shit," he swore. He really, really had wanted to get this figured out before... well, anything happened. "Wait, how is this hurting Brigid," he said defensively.

[Kay Haddock]

"How is this... How stupid are you? Gee, I wonder how making out with some other girl would upset the one with a crush on me, hurr-durr!"

[Alex Carpenter]

"No, what I'm saying is oh my god, you fucking told her? Who's the one hurting Brigid now? Why the fuck did you do that? 'Oh, gee, there's Alex doing something that's probably stupid, so I'm just going to go tell everyone and see what kind of shit I can cause him because I'm Kay and I like being mean for no apparent reason!'"

[Kay Haddock]

"What? Of course I told her! Why should I let her go chasing blindly after an ass like you!"

[Alex Carpenter]

"What!? I... oh fuck you, Kay. I don't know what I ever did to you, but thanks. Any chance you can get to try to make me look bad, right?"

[Kay Haddock]

"What? Excuse me for not wanting my friends to go chasing after some guy who's gonna turn around and smooch some other girl at the first opportunity!"

[Alex Carpenter]

"Oh, and if she ended up kissing some other guy last night for god-knows-what reason would you be telling me that she wasn't worth going after?" Alex shot back.

[Kay Haddock]

"Noooo? I'd be yelling at her just like I'm yelling at you now."

[Alex Carpenter]

"Oh." That seemed to take the wind out of his sails some. "God, why'd you have to tell her that. I don't even know what the hell I was doing last night."

[Kay Haddock]

"Oh yeah, I'm sure it was all totally innocent and just a misunderstanding, huh?"

[Alex Carpenter]

"Well it sure wasn't thought out and smart!" Alex shot back, rubbing his forehead with his palm.

[Kay Haddock]

"Glad we're in agreement there then." she frowns, not having expected Alex to actually admit some fault on his side.

[Alex Carpenter]

"Seriously, I don't know what the hell happened. I don't even think about that with Haley." Most of the time. "I just... I couldn't sleep, like usual, and she was all freaking out about the school getting attacked and so we started to watch some crappy movie so I could try to make her feel better and the next thing I know I'm kissing her, and I don't even know how it got to that point, it seemed really, really messed up even while I was doing it, I just... I don't know, all right?"

[Kay Haddock]

"Uh-huh. You couldn't help yourself. And I'm supposed to believe that."

[Alex Carpenter]

"Not really. You're going to believe what you want and you want to make me out to be some giant asshole, so I don't really know why I'm bothering."

[Kay Haddock]

"Well it's not exactly hard when you keep proving me right now is it?"

[Alex Carpenter]

"Oh bullshit," Alex shot back. "How do I 'keep proving it'. Really, this ought to be good, let's hear what kind of crap Kay's been trying to make up now."

[Kay Haddock]

"Oh lets see, you randomly kiss me when I'm obviously angry, you pretend things are fine until some other girl shows up and suddenly it's all 'Oh god no, I'm not having anything to do with her, eww' cause who'd want anything to do with me when you could go for the invisible one. Or the little blond girl. Or the clueless red-head. Should I start a countdown when you're gonna hit on Theresa maybe?"

[Alex Carpenter]

"I don't even know Theresa and what the hell are you talking about! I said I was sorry for the ambush kiss, and who was the one who started being all 'oh ew, no!' when Aisha showed up? Oh, that's right, not me! That was you being all 'oh, ew, no!' and then getting all pissed off at me when I called you on it!"

[Kay Haddock]

"Yeah well I'm not stupid and it sucks less when I'm the one saying it. And I guess not knowing her is why you haven't hit on her yet cause you sure seem to have tried with everyone else!"

[Alex Carpenter]

"Well maybe if you wouldn't keep acting like I'm an asshole and running off when we're suddenly not alone you wouldn't feel left out!" Alex shot back angrily.

[Kay Haddock]

"Left out? You can 'leave me out' of your dumbass harem crap any day, thanks!"

[Alex Carpenter]

"I don't have a fucking harem!" Alex shot back. "I just told you, I don't know what the hell happened last night, and I'm not even going out with Brigid anyway! Maybe, just maybe, I haven't figured out what I want yet, has anyone thought about that!"

[Kay Haddock]

"Yeah well then maybe you shouldn't be going around kissing people and make up your mind!"

[Alex Carpenter]

"Well maybe I've been trying to!"

[Kay Haddock]

"I think you got things out of order a little there then." she glares.

[Alex Carpenter]

"Yeah, probably," he admitted, losing a chunk of his indignance.

[Kay Haddock]

"Well at least you're admitting it..." she mumbles, some of her anger disappearing without opposition from Alex.

[Alex Carpenter]

"Well it's not like I'm trying to hurt anyone here," he said, realizing all the stuff he'd just said and glancing down uncomfortably.

[Kay Haddock]

"Well you are anyway, so good job, dumbass." she says though her insult doesn't seem to have the same fire as earlier.
