Danger Room - THIS is how you show it who's boss (open)

Postby Ryan Gabriel » Thu Apr 19, 2012 10:45 pm

Some cooling-down was needed. Ryan and Bear both needed it. So Ryan, in his old uniform again (freshly synthesized), walked into the Danger Room, scrolling through the various programs they had to choose from. Hrm... something that doesn't involve explosions...

Bear entered, wearing a similarly retro uniform, along with her goodie satchel.

"No explosions, right?" she inquired with a smile.

"No explosions. Something... fun," he said. "Computer, load Aerial Challenge. Disengage gravity overrides."

"Clearance code is needed to disengage safety measures. Please state sufficient clearance codes."

"Y'know... there's something kind of comforting about a computer with attitude," Ryan chuckled to Bear. "Computer, voice identification: Ryan Gabriel."

There was a brief pause, then a processing beep before the Danger Room spoke up in a much more respectful tone. "Clearance accepted. Welcome back, sir. Loading simulation, sir."

"Randomize the challenges," he added.

"Yes, sir."

Bear smirked, cracking her knuckles.

"Aww, she still remembers you!"

"Well, you don't spend as much time making the Danger Room your bitch as we did without getting something for it," Ryan said, smirking.

Around them, a city spread down from the building top that they were now standing on.

"Simulation loaded. Objective: Catch all targets. Hostile environment loaded."

Ryan looked around and verified that yes, there were plenty of birds and other obstacles that were going to get in their way and create obstacles for them to get around and otherwise actively hamper their pursuit of the three holographic spheres that they had to chase, which themselves weren't exactly easy to catch anyway. "Ready, Sunflower?"

She got into a starting position, raring to go.

"ready, flyboy. Let's be groovy!"

Brigid needed some time to think and, upon arriving, found the Danger Room in use.

Geez, what makes this place so popular?

She looked out the observation deck window.

...whoah.

Ryan smirked, then leapt off the roof just as the targets darted away. He picked the one with the best path for Bear to be able to do her spider-girl impression and chase and arced around to the side to keep it from dodging in that direction to get away from that path. He swept easily through a narrow gap between two buildings without slowing, hoping to cut off the target so that Bear could swing in to intercept it.

Bear read Ryan's mind, getting a running start and jumping off the roof in a dive, before tossing a grapple ball to a toehold, and swinging up and along the skyline at great velocity after their first target.

Ryan's deft manouvering allowed her to get in position easily, twisting upside down as she waited until the absolutely last second to release a net ball.

Ryan went up high, watching as the netball exploded into action to catch the first target, then circled ahead of Bear's current path as he peered out to spot the other two targets and waited for her to swing up high for him to catch.

Bear swung up to the next rooftop, landing in a somersault into a run. She saw she was a tad far to reach Ryan to catch the next sphere.

Smirking, she tossed the grapple ball, catching Ryan's foot and letting herself being pulled off into the sky, much like Spider-Man did with the Vulture many times in years passed.

If Ryan looked back, he would be greeted with a playful stuck out tongue and a look that said, 'faster'.

Ryan grinned and glowed white as he picked up speed. This happened much more quickly now that he was flying powered instead of with wings, though he tried to reign it in a little. Seeing the sphere up ahead, he angled in, then spun, twisting the rope around his foot as he threw his leg out in a sharp circle kick to snap the rope around and throw Bear in a shallow arc at the target.

Bear went shooting through the sky once again, reaching for the sphere, but grimacing as it suddenly darted away from her trajectory, off to the side.

There was a flash beneath her as Ryan shot under her, swooping up at the sphere and grabbing on to it, glancing back over his shoulder as he arced around, checking to see if Bear had a good shot to get a grappling ball out again or if she needed a lift to another spot.

Bear fell out of sight behind a building for a moment, before a grapple ball came into view, hanging in air, waiting for Ryan to grab..

"You're just trying to make me look bad!" he called jokingly as he let go of his power, letting momentum and gravity carry him in a high arc like he would have with his wings tucked in, grabbing the grappling ball and starting to pull up into a high flip to fling her over toward the higher buildings of the city where she could find better purchase for her grapplings.

"I haven't invented a jetpack ball yet!"

Bear grinned, retracting her ball and pulling herself up and onto Ryan's back, giving him a quick peck on the cheek in the process.

"Please, why do you need one of those when you've got me," he scoffed, grinning all the same as they looped around toward the part of the city that the last target had headed for.

Bear held on, happilily enjoying the ride.

"take a steep curve around the 45 story building to the right.. It'll take both of us to get the last one!"

"Hang on, gorgeous!" Ryan said. And, rolling sideways, he took a sharp turn around the building, keeping Bear toward the inside of the turn so that the centrifugal force of it would keep her pressed against him.

After pulling out of the tight turn, Bear stood up, surfing along on Ryan's back.

"steady.. Steady..." she said, reaching into her satchel.

The remaining target was learning, as it was darting and weaving about chaotically.

The target flight was like a perfectly thrown knuckleball, but Bear was ready. Taking out a bright blue ball, she aimed and released..

And the ball sped along, before unfolding into a long dart, which then impaled the last target into the side of a billboard.

A billboard featuring a pest control service with a bullseye logo. A logo that was, of course, bullseyed with the sparking target.

"Y'know, if we hadn't said 'no explosions,' I'd be showing off just like that," Ryan teased, curving around the building again, slowing to a more leisurely pace.

"But then you wouldn't need me, and I'd be back at the beginning, all sad." she replied, smiling.
