Back in shape

[Calvin Strong]

Cal was, finally, back fixed at 100%. It had only taken about three weeks, but he'd managed it. The engineers on the ship had managed to fix up all of his cosmetic damage, and he'd fixed the system damage (with some help from Taliyah), and now he was antsy.

ANd so he found himself in the sparring room (which usually amounted to a blank room unless specialized equipment was activated) with Kevin, staff in hand, but only activated enough to enhance it's structure against Kevin's swords, fighting his friend off to get his combat reflexes back in shape again.

[Kevin Gravis]

Kevin's borrowed non-energy sword clanged against Cal's staff.

"Dude this thing is light for its size," he grinned, striking again.

"And buttons! It has buttons!"

[Calvin Strong]

"So? My staff has..." he grunted, parrying a blow and countering with a low jab, "...Buttons, and I actually know what they do. Mostly."

[Kevin Gravis]

Kevin sidestepped the jab with a twirl and struck again.

"I just got it! And I can't test them now. Something might explode!"

[Calvin Strong]

"Pff, you're worried about getting blown up? I've done that. It's no big thing."

[Kevin Gravis]

"I'm significantly squishier, remember?"

[Calvin Strong]

"Hey, all my squishy parts are just as important as yours."

[Kevin Gravis]

"Well yeah, but mine are prettier."

He struck again.

[Calvin Strong]

Cal caught the end of his staff on the backswing and just glared at Kevin for a minute. "My dick's bigger than your dick," he deadpanned, feinting in to make a sweeping assault on his legs.

[Kevin Gravis]

Kev saw through the feint and jumped over the sweep.

"Yeah, but I'm faster."

"...wait..."

[Calvin Strong]

Cal cackled, bouncing the tip of the staff off the ground to use the rebound in his upward swing at Kevin as he retreated. "Y'know, I couldn't ask for a better straight-man," he mused.

[Kevin Gravis]

The staff very nearly hit Kev as he evaded.

"Dude, I am so not the straight-man."

[Calvin Strong]

"Thank you for proving my point," Cal said, smirking.

[Kevin Gravis]

"Wait what?" he asked, looking much like a confused puppy.

[Calvin Strong]

"Hey, you don't have to be a straight man if you don't want," Cal pointed out, smirking as he spun in for another lunge.

[Kevin Gravis]

"No I... ooh! You sneaky sneak!" he replied, the distraction being all Cal needed to land a hit and knock Kev on his ass.

"...ow..."

[Calvin Strong]

Cal grinned, then offered his friend a hand up. "Rockin' it old school here, with no safeties or anything."

[Kevin Gravis]

"But I can still pretend we're on a simulated pirate ship," he pointed out.

Kev accepted Cal's hand and got back to his feet.

[Calvin Strong]

"Just, y'know, space pirates, right?" Cal asked dryly.

[Kevin Gravis]

"Nah. Those guys suck."

[Calvin Strong]

"Yeah, seriously," Cal griped. "So yeah... how long do you think it's going to take us to get back to the other side of the freaking galaxy?" he asked, getting back into a ready stance.

[Kevin Gravis]

"I dunno, but we got here fast enough," he answered, getting in position.

[Calvin Strong]

"Don't know about you, but I haven't seen them using Shi'ar warpgates while they've been cruising through the galaxy," Cal pointed out.

[Kevin Gravis]

"But don't they still have warp-speed or something?"

[Calvin Strong]

"Yeah, something like that, but this isn't Star Trek. We don't make it wherever we want in a day or two just because the script says so," Cal answered. "THey can use their powers to do something like it, but... well, letting a ship do it versus doing it yourself. Tell me which one you're going to be able to do more often."

[Kevin Gravis]

Kev nodded.

"Beats floating around in a wrecked shuttle anyway."

[Calvin Strong]

Cal shuddered a little. "Yeah, I'll take this any day," he said, probably too enthusiastically as he shifted into a practice attack.

[Kevin Gravis]

"So how long do you think it'll take?" he asked as he practice blocked.

[Calvin Strong]

"Not thinking about that," Cal said quickly. "Just going to let myself be surprised."

[Kevin Gravis]

"Yeah... though I hope the Corps messenger gets to Earth fast."
