McCoy is early to class on Monday. In spite of his injuries from the weekend, he seems to be in good condition. Attentive students will note that he's still moving a little gingerly but between his own healing factor and the work of the infirmary he's easily in good enough shape for a lecture. A basket labeled "Assignment Drop-Off" is on the desk for those students who prefer to submit hard-copy, though the syllabus clearly gave the option for emailed entries as well.

Zoe has also emailed her assignment, in fact, it probably arrived about 20 minutes before class starts. The key to proper time management, after all, is deciding what can be put off for as long as possible and then doing it in a rush. Her outfit of the day is screaming in multiple hues as she sidles in and takes up a chair near her team-mate.

"So long as you do not make a habit of getting kidnapped to avoid assignments, I suppose I could grant an extension this once," he replies with dry humour, "Welcome back, Ms Morita. The next session will be in the Danger Room so if you would be so kind as to either email it or drop it off in my lab I would greatly appreciate it."

When the time comes, McCoy clears his throat to get the attention of the class. "Good day everyone. I hope the research project has given you a new perspective on the usage of your powers in different environments. We will have similar assignments and projects over the course of the semester on an individual basis, but in keeping with the name of the course, we are going to spend more time working on techniques to blend powers from multiple mutants."

"Some of the X-Teams have developed special maneuvers to make the most of different power sets. Which maneuvers come to mind?"

"Thank you, Mr. Gabriel." The screen behind McCoy lights up with a looping animated sequence showing a stylized Colossus picking up and hurling a stylized Wolverine. The end of the loop terminates with Wolverine attacking various foes, ranging from Magneto to a small force of commandos to an airplane. "While likely not the first joint maneuver attempted by mutants, it is perhaps the most widely recognized. In the classic example, an extremely strong team member hurls a willing companion into battle, either to reach an otherwise inaccessible target or simply for the element of surprise. Many variations on the theme are possible."

As the class progresses, Beast brings up other examples of collaborative powers. Many of them are based on mobility, allowing for one team member to help another reach a target or get to safety. Others are power amplifiers of sorts, using a sonic power to calm a crowd and adding a telepathic suggestion to leave. Another scenario involves creating a lightning storm to recharge a mutant whose powers are based on electricity. As the class progresses, McCoy encourages participation and brainstorming of new ideas.

"And now for your homework assignments. Our next class is also our first Danger Room session. Your task is to pair up with a classmate and develop a simple joint effort using at least one power to aid the other. The easiest and safest options are typically mobility-based, but you need not confine yourself to that category if you find other power combinations that are worth exploring. I will be on hand for the Danger Room session on Wednesday, and you will have additional scheduled lab time on Friday if you need to refine the maneuver."

"Unless there are any questions, class is dismissed."

"In the field, you will often be forced to work with other mutants whose powers may not mesh as naturally, so I would strongly recommend picking from those participating in the class. However, for this initial assignment, you may ask other students to participate."

Mercy both emailed her assignment, and presented a hardcopy in a nice plastic binder with a clear front cover. It's top quality work, Mercy spent six hours on it, easily. All her sources are original sources, and they're meticulously documented. The subject of her Terrain Advantage essay is an unusual one, it covers a major naval battle between Athens and Persia, with a focus on how what was normally a neutral area of terrain, the sea, became a major advantage for the better trained Athenians.

She was in class on time, and now that it's come time to pick a partner, she looks around, considering what she knows about people's mutations.

Con had also considered a naval battle, the slightly earlier Salamis, but had finally settled on the Battle of Marathon which had effectively marked the end of the first Persian war. The heavily outnumbered Greeks had devasted the the Persians by virtue of the much heavier armor the Greek Hoplites used over the lightly armored Persian infanty.

Closing eyes for a moment, he considered the new assignment. Working with Will again would have been interesting, but Con guessed he already had someone in mind. Rachel was a possibilty, the block or whatever was in his head might allow something there. As to his classmates...

He opened his eyes again, looking round, considering them in much the same way Mercy was.

Marcus e-mailed his assignment in about an hour before class started. He spent a good amount of time on it and pulled off some decent quality work with it. He was already gathering his books, more than ready to grab some food before his next class.

Zoe did her project on the Vietnam war and how the Viet Cong used the terrain, especially the purpose-built network of tunnels, to succeed in guerrilla warfare.

As class is dismissed, she clambers up to stand on top of her seat so she's more visible and jokingly hollers to the class, "May I have your attention please? Diminutive white Mutant with power of friction desperately seeking teammate for class project. Catch me here or on XUNet to arrange meeting!"
