Open Air Market - Sun 19

Postby Mercy Wilkins » Sat Apr 11, 2009 10:00 pm

Mercy makes her way through the market, looking for cheap and gothy clothes, and just having a fun time chatting with the vendors and examining all the stuff that's out for display.

Juma is also in the market, wearing a kilt with a generic tartan pattern, sandals, and a leather jacket over a t-shirt. He's carrying a small bag already but his attention is soon drawn to the winged figure a row over. His tall, lean form easily navigates the crowd of tourists and he calls out when closer, "Mercy! Hello there."

"Thank you! I mostly gave up on wearing it in the United States, it simply was not worth the strange questions all the time, but it is not as bad here. And it helps in case I happen to need a tail in an emergency," he smiles, "You are looking nice today as well."

Mercy tucks some hair behind one ear and smiles. "Thank you. Looking for anything in particular, or just having fun at the market?"

"Well, I wanted a couple of cute tops, and they're really hard to fit on me." She waggles her wings. "So I'm still looking. But mostly I came to have fun."

"I can imagine. I was very glad to get another magic uniform, shapeshifting is hell on clothing especially with my budget. What do you normally do about the wings?"

"Tailor the tops myself, usually, but if it's a tanktop or a halter or something and it's backless enough, I can wear it with the wings."

"When you say magic uniform, do you mean that X-Men stuff?"

He nods, "I suppose with all the strange magical creatures around I should watch how I use that word. I am told it is technology, but even after the last few years, the distinction is sometimes lost on me. Science has never interested me enough to learn more than I need," he concludes with a shrug. "And really, I don't need much."

"It's close enough to magic for me anyway. I don't know how I'd feel about wearing something skintight in public though."

He tilts his head, genuinely curious, "Why is that? You look fit and self-confident."

Mercy chuckles. "Well, now I sound like I was fishing for a compliment. Which I wasn't, really, but thank you."

"I know I have a pretty good body, but what I like about clothes is that I can create an image, a look. I can be artistic about it, and wear something that makes me look taller or shorter or thinner or more exotic. Skintight pretty much takes all of that away. I guess it'd be interesting to be a blank slate once in a while, but blank gets boring."

"Ahhh," he nods, "That is probably the best answer I have received to that question. We did not have a strong nudity taboo where I grew up, and while the missionaries tried to instill one, it never truly stuck. Clothing as art? It is not a skill I have, but that I can appreciate."

"I don't know, you have a really good base to start from, and the Tartan is a good idea. Tartan on a black guy? Daring, unusual. I bet I could do something really interesting with your wardrobe." She reaches up and lightly tugs Juma's tartan, arranging it so it falls a little bit better on him.

"Sounds good, but don't be afraid to tell me if you don't like it. I won't be offended."

Mercy looks around, eyeing the stalls with a more discerning eye now, since she hadn't been looking for guy's stuff before.

"I don't know. I had a very different life at the Acadamy, but the one I have now is a lot more adult, and I think I like it better. Lots of changes."

"Sometimes I feel as if the ground beneath me isn't solid. You ever feel like that?" She looks up at Juma, after picking up a shirt, and holds it against him.

"All the time. The last week has felt like a landslide and it's all I can do to keep my balance. Of course, I don't have quite the same ability to leave the ground behind that you do," he smiles, "But I understand you are speaking metaphorically." He indulges Mercy and holds his arms out when she lifts the shirt, "Strangely though, I'm feeling more like I can be a child than I have in years. It took some time for me to get used to the idea that things like food and water can be taken for granted."

"Ahh, so you're actually African then, and not just of african descent. I've never been, but I hear that Africa still has a long way to go before people can feel safe."

Mercy rejects the shirt and moves to the next booth.

"Ugandan," he nods, "And yes, there is still a long way to go. Civil war, if there is such a thing, border skirmishes, warlords, even some inter-tribal feuds that refuse to end. That is why I am joining the X-Teams, to get the training I need to help. I know X-Corp does not often get involved in those sorts of conflicts very often, but when I am ready, I hope to strike off on my own. Or, perhaps, with a group of like-minded mutants willing to help."

"Human diplomacy hasn't been working all that well, maybe alien diplomacy will fare better," he grins, "but it is too soon for any such plans. Maybe if we're lucky, the conflict will have sorted itself out by the time we graduate, but I'm not holding my breath. If you could go off-planet, would you?"

"In a heartbeat. The dark wouldn't bother me, and the Shi'ar are descended from birds so I think I'd fit in. I want to see all the cities and ships and everything that's out there."

"How about you?" Mercy holds another shirt up to Juma and smiles this time.

"I don't know. I think we have our work cut out for us here on Earth, but part of my would like to explore beyond it. I am also curious as to whether or not my gift would work on prey from another planet, but testing that could be dangerous."

"Fortune favors the brave." Mercy picks up a hat, sniffs it, and puts it at a very precise angle on Juma's head.

He quirks his head at the addition of the hat, stooping to check out his reflection in a nearby mirror. "Hmm.. interesting. I rarely do anything with my hair except shave it off."

He laughs, "I've gotten to like reading but it's still not my first choice. Rock and roll itself I can take or leave, but I do like music with a good drum beat."
