Look at what the cat dragged in...

Postby Atropha » Sun Jul 31, 2011 5:01 pm

After almost an entire day of nothing happening suddenly the portal in the fortified basement of the General's headquarters springs to life again, the ethereal rift churning and flickering as Atropha stumbles back out. Though judging by the shape coalescing into (this) existence she's not alone.

Samantha frowned as she emerged.

"She isn't here. It wasn't that long since you sent her through..."

"Yes. And this is where it's supposed to lead. Doesn't mean it always has to. Just... follow my lead okay." she says quietly, rushing towards the door and carefully opening it, nervously glancing out into the hallway.

Amazon was walking down the hallway when she saw Atropha poke her head out. She blinked and stopped, puzzled by the unusual behavior.

Atropha ducks back into the room just long enough to talk to Sam. "Rachel. Shift into her. Now."

Then she steps out of the room, trying to seem as nonchalant as possible.

Samantha quirked a brow, but did as asked.

Atropha might not have planned on Samantha assuming the form of her world's version of Rachel, though. There were certainly some differences from Heartbreaker.

She doesn't have time to worry about that right now and can only hope it'll hold up a cursory look. Or that people weren't told to be on the lookout for her. Still, having been already spotted she just walks into the hallway, giving Amazon a half-hearted nod.

Amazon took a couple of steps forward, returning the nod, "Atropha." She still kept an eye on her, obviously trying to figure out if something unusual was going on.

Samantha stepped out after Atropha, not certain why the sphinx had to skulk about, but at least grasping that her alternate apparently wasn't welcome here.

"Don't tell Harbinger." she tells Amazon with a glance back at Sam and a wink as she pretends to straighten her clothes.

"I don't think it will be a problem," she said as she reached into Amazon's mind to carefully grasp the woman's recent memory.

Getting to her recent memory wasn't terribly difficult, but it did involve brushing past a wall of surface thoughts that included her real name and a persistent mental image of an oncoming train.

The alterations Samantha made were superficial, mostly just smoothing the encounter over into something much less suspicious.

"Pleasure seeing you again."

Amazon blinked for the briefest of moments as things reconciled, "Yeah. Same here." She looked around for a moment. "I suppose I should let you ladies by," she said, moving to one side of the hallway.

"Have a better excuse why we're sneaking around a restricted area? Then be my guest. My departure through that portal wasn't entirely voluntary. Or that's what they thought anyway."

She 'says' as they wanders down the corridor, Atropha beginning to hurry once they round a corner.

"Not to mention that the moment they realize who you are we're going to be in a lot more trouble than from poking Harbinger's superiority complex."

"Really? You've met him before." she sends, while starting to seem somewhat lost judging by the way she looks around, trying to find the elevator that since then seems to have wandered off.

That did bring a bit of a look of surprise to her face, but also understanding.

"Rather good thing I don't have the eye, then..."

"That is the difference your mind jumps to?" Atropha shakes her head and continues to lead the way down corridor after corridor, cursing under her breath until they finally happen upon the doors to the elevator.

"He encouraged these chucklefucks to elevate him to some kind of almighty force of nature. 'He can't shift that away' isn't going to fly, whether it's true or not. And either way they're going to assume you have the same potential and they'll want to exploit it, so you might want to hide just exactly who you are." she sends, slipping into the elevator. Now, after a bit of exposure, the 'feel' of the mental conversation with Atropha would begin to be very familiar, along with the woman's movements. Though both seem much more focused and determined than Nailah's.

"I have to admit, I can't shake the feeling that you're familiar to me, beyond the obvious."

"Okay, listen. You seem to have calmed down a lot..." she sends, pressing the stop button on the elevator which proceeds to just keep moving to the first floor regardless and Atropha's train of thought is interrupted by a harsh "Fuck!" just as the doors open to reveal the lobby.

Samantha quirked a brow at the 'other' Rachel, and upon sensing the mental probe she at first tightened her mental defenses, then apparently thought better of it. Allowing for an apparent gap, she baited the other side with a hastily constructed but otherwise reasonable facsimile of...

...Will's old mindscape.

"Your defenses are getting better." Heartbreaker hissed, her mental avatar a giant green snake Too bad you went with a fake mindscape. she added, as she started to shred the construct, looking for a way to take over 'Legion's' body.

Samantha tried to guide Heartbreaker as she formed constructs resembling the mental representations of Will's shifting faculties. It was a gambit, but she still considered it less risky than repulsing the telepath with her full power.

"Well, they can't all be masterpieces..."

With that, the hollowed out construct that Samantha had allowed Heartbreaker into began to collapse. Or, more accurately, it began to cave in with some force behind it.
