Re: XUB 1-September 16th

Juma's a pretty good dancer, partly because he doesn't have the same sense of propriety that many Westerners have. His movements are graceful, to be certain, but he's also not at all self-conscious about his appearance. His grin broadens as he finds the beat, keeping up with Bear's twists and sways.

Ayami and Calvin are dancing, with Ayami grooving it.

"You're not half bad...a little mechanical, but not half bad..."

She glances around to see how everyone else is holding up.

Smiling happily, Bear grasps Juma's hands, mimicing his movements to a very good degree.

Juma grins and does a decent job of leading, pressure from his hands giving Bear some guidance on what he's going to do next. As they get into the swing of it, he nudges her to twirl away and back again, shimmy side to side, and step up close.

Ayami's a little jealous--both Juma and Bear seem to be better dance partners than the robot. Still, she's going to make the best of it, at least until a couple songs go by and she can switch...

"Just give me a minute to get used to it. I haven't danced in a while," Cal said.

It was true, he was a little stiff. That was the problem with stored reflexes, they took a minute or so to get integrated.

Code: Select all
Reflex integration completed.

The effect was instant. Cal noticed little things that were wrong about the way he was moving, slight parts of the music that he was out of sync with. Well, we can't have that. He shifted his hands slightly as he started to lead much more fluidly. "All right, that's better."

Melody sat back and watched her new acquaintances interact with one another and was then distracted by her laptop's email alert. She spent several rather distracted minutes replying to an email by then noticed that her company had shifted to the dance floor.

Maybe this place won't be so bad. Do already miss Chicago though... she thought to herself.

"Glad you approve," Cal said with a grin. "Just need to get into the music, you know?" He felt a bit more comfortable now, although the 'mechanical' comment had still stung a bit.

Melody's phone rang, and she picked it up--it was administration, so perhaps she'd have a room soon after all. She packed up her laptop and other things, and waved at some of her newer acquiaintances, and then walked out of the bar.

Any desire Cal had to keep dancing with Ayami evaporated in that instant. Still, that wouldn't be polite, so he kept going, waiting until the end of the song. "Thank you. You're pretty good yourself."

"Thanks for the dance," Cal said, before the next song could start. "But I probably ought to be getting back. Classes and all. Can't let people think I'm cheating or anything." He snagged his beer on his way to the door, finishing it off and setting it down farther down the counter.

Zach walked in, giving a nod or a wave to those he knew on his way to the bar. Once there, he ordered a drink and took a seat at the bar.

He turned to look at the girl. His eyes wandered over her face for a moment. "My, very beautiful." He said with little thought to it. He coughed. "Um, your hair. It's pretty." He stood up and returned the bow.

"The name's Zachary Flint. Good to meet you Ayami."

He blinked, wondering exactly how hard it was to be explained. "Are you an empath? I believe those are the types that can sense emotions from others."

"Oh. That's pretty amazing. So empathy and emotion control.." He thought for a second then glanced off to the side. Oh dear.. He decided to not think much else on what he was feeling currently and took a nice long drink of his beer. "Telepaths are interesting people."

"That's true. I thought it was all still telepathy though. I think what I do falls into that category as well." He shrugged. He tried to think of something else to talk about. "So, you're Japanese right? What part of Japan are you from?"

"Ah, yes, I'm from Tsubata-shi, near Kanazawa, in Ishikawa-ken on the Sea of Japan"

Pausing for a moment at Zach's blank expression, she adds "...which I'm sure means absolutly nothing to you, ne?"

The name Kanazawa was faintly familiar but most of all Ayami said went through one ear and out the other. He blushed, a little embarrassed.

"It's true, I know little of it, but that doesn't mean it means nothing. What's it like? All I ever really hear about it Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. Is it similar to any of them?"

She pauses. "I suppose it's a little like Kyoto. Osaka was bombed to pieces during World War II, and Tokyo's been destroyed so many times it's hardly recognizable anymore. But Kanazawa avoided all of that, so you've still got some lovely old things there--one of the last original castles, for instance."

"Heh, true. Tokyo never really seemed to get a break. I'm glad your hometown avoided all that too much trouble. Hm, either way, it sounds like it'd be fairly pretty. Is it sort of a tourist spot? I'd think it would be at least a little with the castle."

"It's popular, but out of the way--surrounded by mountains and the sea, and they're only NOW completing a bullet train to it; so it's easier just to go to one of the Big Three. Makes it annoying when going home, for sure."

She pauses.

"Where are you from, anyway?"
