More Danger Room antics

Starting to jog down on the side-walk alongside Will she shrugs. "Maybe it adjusts to people's powers? At least when I can see it coming I'm not too scared of a flamethrower. I'd be more concerned about a guy with a sledgehammer."

"Don't be silly. Computers don't hold grudges." Rounding the last corner they come up to the construction site. Workers are going all over the place, working on what so far is mostly a pillar of steel beams with only a few floors of supporting concrete.

"Seems to be nothing out of the ordinary here. Checkpoint's at the top?"

"Somewhere up there at least, I think." Looking up at the side of the building in progress she points at one of the construction elevators. "Doesn't look too challenging, to be honest..."

As if on cue a loud snapping noise echoes down from the skyscraper, followed by the screeching of metal on metal as the elevator plummets a few feet before grinding to a shaky halt.

"Okay, maybe you're right."

"Alright, let's not stick around for the welcoming committee this time, we can just..."

Will looks around, but the elevator is directly between Will and Sara and their destination. Any approach will have to bring the elevator into play.

"...we can just..."

There IS a crane and some other construction equipment in use--a bulldozer, some jackhammers, etcetera.

"...we can just watch out for those jackhammers, at the very least, right?"

"Sure, nasty things those.", she chuckles. "But seriously, how should we do this? I don't like heights to start with and I'm not sure if I want to trust those elevators."

"Forget the elevators. Nasty stuff, that. I'm not trusting this program with anything I can't see working.

If all we have to do is climb up, that's fairly straight-forward. Just keep an eye out for anyone sneaking up behind, will you? I can't imagine it letting us just climb unmolested..."

With that, Will strides towards the structure, looking for the safest place to grab hold.

Stepping up to one of the girders she frowns and mutters. "Stupid steel. How am I supposed to climb that?"
Grabbing the sides of the steel beam and putting her feet against it she testingly pulls herself up. "There's no way I'm going to make that..."

"Well, we can always do the ol' ladder express; you'll just have to make sure no one comes up to cut out my legs from underneath me. A bit more literally than that expression is normally used, too."

Will, once again, stretches himself up to the top floor, forming a ladder.

"Good to go?"

"Yep!" She starts climbing up the ladder before the workers walking around see what's going on nad start to point at them. One of them runs over as he sees it and shouts up.

"Hey! I don't know what you're trying to do there, but you kids better knock it off! People are working here, this is no place to play around!"

Either ignoring or not realizing that the ladder is no normal one he starts climbing up after Sara.

Man, I've got people climbing all over me. Whelp, time to reach for the top

"Sara, hold on!" Will quickly retracts, holding on to the top as much as he can as he brings his legs back up to the rest of his body, rapidly telescoping down to a normal size.

Sara lets out a surprised yelp as Will starts 'retracting' himself and tries to hold on to him as good as she can. The worker letting go of the ladder in surprise and jumping down the few steps he had climbed. He pulls out a walkie-talkie, presumably to tell someone further up on the building that there are two kids trying to scale it.

As the two reach the floor Will's holding on to Sara swiftly climbs off of Will and on to solid ground before helping him up as well.

"Thank you kindly.

So, I guess we've got to get to the top without messing with these workers too much; I'd assume that'd lower our final score."

Will looks around. "Where the blazes IS that checkpoint, anyway?" Seeing the switch for the elevator, he quickly calls it up to the top floor. "This'll keep 'em from chasing after us too quickly, anyway..."

"If it's not here it must be somewhere on the girders up there..." Looking up at the criss-crossing beams and narrow walkways Sara shivers. "Yeah... not looking forward to that."

From the top floor, that is filled with all kinds of equipment and yet to be put to use girders a few ladders lead up into the maze-like network of planks and cargo-lifting contraptions.

Looking up at the girders, he turns to Sara. "By the by, how big can you get?"

"Not very. Unless I make myself thinner..." Stretching herself up she grows up to about 15 feet, her fingers almost reaching the metal beam above her. "Allllmost..."
Tapping into the concrete she's standing on she slowly regains a bit of her balance as she compensates for the loss of diameter. With a final effort she manages to reach one of the girders and clings on to it with her arms.

"Well, now, THAT'S impressive. Here, let me give you a little boost."

Will flattens himself and slides under Sara, growing back first to normal height, and then to about 10 feet tall.

"Can you pull yourself up now?"

"Easily, yes, thanks!" Wrapping herself around the girder she pulls herself up, taking Will up with her while she assembles herself on the beam, her lower body one solid mass sitting around the beam out of which the rest of her sticks out.

As the two sit on top of the girder, Will breaks out the smirk. "We're two-fifths of a basketball team."

Trying to stand up, he wobbles a bit on the girder. "Woah, balance. Hmm...don't have any rope, so..."

He wraps his arm around Sara's, forming a small knot. "There. This should keep us out of some danger. Like mountain climbers, right?"

She chuckles nervously. "Yeah..."

Sara carefully looks down past the girder to make sure no ones walking around below them and slowly stands up, bits and pieces of concrete dropping down as she lets go of them.

"Okay, looking down was not a good idea." She nervously looks around to see where to go next and where the closet vertical beam is she could hold on to.

Carefully edging her way towards the safety being promised by the beam she responds, "I hate to tell you this, but... you do realize those guys work up here?" Bridging the last bit with a big step that's more powered by desperation than courage Sara clings to the beam going up. "Okay, what now?"

"I was trying not to let that bother me."

Looking up, Will sees the top beckoning. Looking down, he sees the construction workers getting the ladders set up while yelling.

"I suppose we've only got one way to go...there's not really enough room here for me to do a ladder, though..."

Snaking her arms up along the beam Sara seems to be collapsing in on herself until her arms wrap around the girder and turn into a solid 'casing' around it.

"Hold on to me. I don't know if I can lift us up, but I can try."

Will holds on, but a puzzled expression crosses his face.

"Something wrong?" Sara looks a bit worried, although it's hard to tell with her face looking like a not very well defined statue, her mind to occupied with keeping her arms attached to the girder to spend too much effort on looking like herself while she slowly pulls herself and Will up.

Reaching the point to where she was able to stretch she just sits there for a moment, the trip up dafinately having taking it's toll on her. "I'm gonna have to take a bit of a break. How much further do we have to go?"

Of course, this is the cue for the men down below to start rigging up one of the cargo lifters...

Glancing down nervously she spots the workers and immidiately remembers the other reason why she shouldn't have looked down, trying her best not to panic at the sight of pretty much nothing below her.

"I think so, but I'm not sure I'll be able to pull you up unless you let go. Let me see if I can reach, first..."

Will stretches out, and does manage to get a grip on the top girder.

"OK, I've got a grip...but i can't pull you up while you're holding on..."

"O-okay." Closing her eyes she holds on to Will and lets go of the girder, turning back to normal at the same time.

The sudden increase of weight is a bit much for Will at first, but he manages to keep his grip, and reels Sara in to the top.

"There, that wasn't so bad, was it?"

"Checkpoint 2/3 reached. Recalculating final checkpoint--please wait. Please wait. Please wait.

Final checkpoint decided."

A map appears in midair, with the new checkpoint marked in the central of a public park.
