Romancing the Stone

Not certain what to expect, and certainly prepared for Faultline and Legion to just try and kill them, Samantha walked up to the laboratory facility. Unlike before, she was in her more natural form, as she had no reason not to be.

There wasn't much of a facility to be seen. Only the front of a residential house, a dark-green Bentley parked along the gravel road leading up to the door.

She eyed the Bentley, for a moment wondering if this Will was as literal-minded as the one she knew. Staying alert, she approached the door.

Faultline opens the door when Sam is still on the steps leading up to it.

"What a surprise. It's the 'lost little girl' from the park."

"I realize I neglected to write..."

The flock was probing about as she looked to Faultline, mostly to determine how much of the landscape was genuine, and how much might be Will.

It was hard to tell, at least without pushing harder. The entire building appears to be shielded, extending underground even. The Bentley is definitely a Will though, patiently sitting there and waiting.

"I am busy. What do you want?"

"It was recently brought to my attention that you might appreciate a word with the only individual to pass through the General's portal and live to tell the tale..."

"Can't keep her trap shut, can she?" she grumbles, which is accompanied by a vaguely unsettling sound of stone grinding against stone. "What did you pay for that information?"

"Funny, I don't recall discussing terms with you as of yet..."

"You're the one who came to me. Consider my terms not removing you from my premises."

"Then I suppose you're not as eager for firsthand knowledge as I was led to believe..."

"I didn't give them much choice in the matter."

"I've a vested interest in getting back to that portal."

"That is all." she says sarcastically.

"Not offering enough? What if I told you I know what became of Simon, Belial, and one of your Legion?"

"Is there any chance to retrieve him?" she 'asks', not really expecting a positive answer.

"Rather depends on if we can get back to that portal..."

She narrows her eyes at Sam. "Just how retarded do you think I am?"

"It's entirely obvious you're content with what you have here, if you're this risk-averse. The General has a working device. If you don't move now, then he'll have trumped the lot of you."

"Does he now." she asks, a nasty grin spreading on her lips. "How's your leg, by the way?"

"I don't intend to unless you keep making these ridiculous offers."

"No, what I would be much more interested in is how your mutation works."

"Now we're talking." she says, stepping inside and waiting for Sam to follow.

Warily, she followed inside.

The entire inside is teaming with mental activity. Very weak but almost everywhere. It almost makes for a decent white noise cover within the psi-shielding.

Sara leads Sam into the living room and motions for one of the Wills who had gathered in the hallway out of curiosity to get them something to drink.

"Well then, you want to go home, is that it?"

"...us...one...can you feel...who...hear us...one of..."

"It'd probably be easier to negotiate with them but I take it you have your reasons."

The vague psychic projections continue calling out to Sam although they're weak, disjointed, barely even noticeable over the background.

"I don't think they've quite figured out who I am, and that's likely for the best. They mistook me for one of yours, at first."

"Oh they are very paranoid about Legion, yes." she laughs. "But enough about us..."

".....help....." the fragment of a thought drifts up from somewhere.
