Nailah is sitting in the main room of the hideout, early in the morning. By the looks of it she spend most of the night here, awake and nursing cups of coffee that smell suspiciously of alcohol.

Samantha stepped out of her quarters looking... well, she slept in a chair. Was that... a black feather tangled in her hair? Regardless, she probably had slept more than who she then set eyes upon.

"...I could have left," she said.

"As unsettling as the birds were, I couldn't sleep anyway." she says, not looking up from her cup.

"...birds?" She asked, puzzled.

"The ravens. They were all over the room."

"That... that shouldn't happen. I've been..."

"...normally I can hold them in for you."

"Hold them in." she says flatly. "Well, no more need to go out of your way for me, I suppose."

"You yourself said it, a room full of them is bloody disturbing..."

"It's... unsettling, yes."

"So it always just seemed... better that way."

"Well I'm glad I'm not being a nuisance anymore then." she says, taking a sip from her coffee.

"That's not how I meant it..."

"I know. And I'm sure you were always happy to do so." She actually means that but she is pretty grumpy overall.

"I just... know not everything about me is easy to live with."

"It is. Because you always go out of your way to hide those things."

"Not without reason, I should think..."

"I never managed or bothered to contain my weirdness around you."

"I'm... I'm sorry," she said with a sigh as she walked over and sat down.

"I know..." Could probably throw my coffee at you and you'd be sorry for that too.

For a moment it seemed Samantha was going to say something, but ultimately she held her tongue. The hurt look on her face likely gave an idea, though.

It doesn't go unnoticed and Nailah actually does throw her cup. Just across at a wall though and the fact that it's a metal one kind of deprives her of a vaguely satisfying shattering.

Samantha flinched, then exhaled.

"...I'm just making it worse."

Nailah sighs. She seems annoyed, though mostly with herself.

"It's... You're better company than the other two here."

"Not much to talk about, with those two."

"Can't stand one's idealism and want to break the others neck and probably will if I stay here much longer."

"I didn't play Harbinger's pet for nothing." she says, pulling over a notepad that's been sitting on the table. "I lost my book, but I've been putting together what I remember. Guard schedules, the 'standard' configuration of rooms and hallways, those kind of things..."

"Standard configuration?"

"This world's Deirdre controls the walls and floors at all times. She's their alarm system and first line of defense in one. There's no guarantee the walls are going to be in the same place they were yesterday, especially in the basement."

"I may have lost my book, but I found hers..." she says and pulls a book from her pockets and places it on the table.

"Before you start feeling bad for her you should probably take a look at this." she says, sliding the book over towards Sam.

"Who said I felt sorry for her? If she'd succeeded..."

She looked to the book she was passed.
