Need a Light?

Postby Bombshell » Thu Jul 14, 2011 12:04 am

Melody excused herself from her new companion to go have a smoke and get some fresh air. She pulled out an almost-antique looking cigarette holder from her small purse, took out a cigarette, and put it to her lips while she fumbled through her purse for a moment.

After going through it twice, it was pretty clear that she’d forgotten her lighter.

“Motherfucker,” she swore as she leaned up against the brick of the building, sighing.

"Need a light there miss?"

The city of Britishland! A city brimming with city and also history. Built upon the stone foundations of pagan pig farmers the city had resisted blitzes and fires for dozens of millennia. And all throughout it's life, crime had been the unavoidable cat hair that covered the ass of it's dark dress pants. Fight as hard as one could and one would never truly defeat it, though it could be held back. But even the most heroic bastions of justice needed their rest so that they could return to the good fight revitalized and re-energized. And also maybe father future crime-fighters. With these purposes in mind the ever-vigilant Master Corporal Freud of the Royal Canadian Space Corps stowed away his iconic regalia, slipping once again into the warm embrace of obscurity as his mild-mannered alter-ego.

His approach had been almost perfectly silent, though not to the point of being terribly creepy. The light of an old, well-worn lighter obscured his face as he held it toward the blonde, though the rest of his clothing was fairly visible. From head to toe he was dressed in a drab brown; brown coat, brown tie tucked into a brown shirt, even a brown side hat tucked under the shoulder strap of his coat.

Melody clenched her left hand loosely, forming a bunch of small bombs inside her fist as she turned and smiled at the voice approaching. She'd been burned by strangers before and wasn't going to take any chances this close to starting her new job.

"You're my hero," she grinned, leaning toward the stranger with the cigarette hanging out of her mouth.

He seemed harmless enough, at least.

"And here I thought I wouldn't be recognized. I guess I'll have to start wearing glasses like that Clark Kent fellow."

The man was a bit on the short side, actually shorter than the blonde. His boyish face was offset by the pencil-thin mustache, his hair perfectly parted despite the slight wind rolling down the street. He had a hint of an accent; not American, but fairly close. And the uniform, though dated, didn't look half bad on him.

Melody let out a brief snort of laughter as she leaned back against the wall. She took a long drag on the cigarette, and slowly exhaled, blowing rather impressive smoke rings in the process.

She let her bombs dissipate harmlessly and grabbed the cigarette with her now free hand, "Melody," she said casually, holding out her right hand for a shake.

"Victor." He said, snapping his lighter shut and tucking it into his pocket before shaking Melody's hand firmly. He turned his back to the wall, leaning against it and watching the smoke rings float through the air.

"... this is going to sound dumb but have we met before? You look familiar to me."

Victor nodded his head slowly. "Yup, that sounds about right miss." He said before he cracked a smile.

"So what brings you to this part of town, if'n I can be so bold?"

"New job, mostly. Also just looking for a change of scenery. States and Canada were just getting a bit too routine after living there my whole life. At least where I was working. Everything sort of just blended together."

"I thought that accent sounded a bit familiar. It's nice to meet someone from back home across the pond." Victor said. "Well I gotta wish you the best of luck Miss Melody. I hope this move is just the thing you needed."

"You're sweet. Thank you," she smiled, and sized him up a bit.

"So. since you so valiantly came to my rescue, and then preceded to entertain me, I think you should have this," she said as she dug through her purse and extracted a simple business card, handing it to Vic. "It's got my number and email on it. Us non-Brits need to stick together, right?"

"Aww shucks, thank you." He said with a hint of modesty. He took the business card and read it as Melody spoke, slipping it into the breast pocket of his jacket and buttoning the pocket shut.

"It's my pleasure Melody. I'd be more than happy to lend a touch of sanity to this place. I mean... they serve soggy peas with their fish and chips. What's up with that?"

"Beats the hell out of me," she laughed, "I certainly didn't come here for the food. Blood pudding? Fuck no."

"Let's not get too crazy with this sanity idea, though. You seem like a classy bastard, so we'll get martinis and paint the town red. Real ones. Not the fruity bullshit that pretends to be booze. If a waiter brought be a 'flirtini' I'd probably break his nose."

"Sidekick?" she asked incredulously, "Who says..." she moved in close, resting her hands lightly on his hips, the smell of her perfume wafting over him, "that you wouldn't be MY sidekick."

Melody smiled devilishly and moved back against the wall.

"Because the tight shorts and little cape would look better on you than me." Victor said with a rather straight face before cracking up a bit. "Oh yeah, I definitely need to get my drink on tonight. I'm with you toots, let's show this city what a real party is like."

"True," she grinned.

"Now, what I want to do is party with you all night, and show you how we do things in Chicago. I think I'd blow your mind....however," she explained, "I start my new job tomorrow. And I want to be nice and fresh. So howsabout we do that town-painting some other night this week."

Melody leaned in and whispered in his ear, her breath hot on his neck and her hair brushing his cheek. "I'll make it up to you..."

"I've always wanted to visit the city of big b-shoulders, I a night out with you would give me all the Chicago I could ever wish for."

The man shivered softly at Melody's forwardness, so easily swayed and entranced by a woman who knew what she was doing. "I'm sure you will. And I'll see about giving you a run for your money sweetheart. But perhaps..." He put his hands on the wall on either side of Melody's waist, having to look up at the girl due to his height. "We can have a little sneak preview tonight."

Melody leaned back and gave him an impish grin.

Then she kissed him. Hard.

I want you, To make believe it's the first time, And I gotta say to you, Love will find a way and that's always true...

Victor was more than accepting of Melody's affection. If anything she'd find him rather hungry, taking in everything she gave and giving rather generously in return. When he did break away, tugging on her bottom lip with his teeth he let out a long, low sigh.

And his hair was a mess now.

"... wow. Okay, yeah, I'm beginning to see why you're the hero and I'm the sidekick. Damn you taste good." That last part was quieter than the rest, the man licking his lips and looking quite... interested.

Melody grinned and then abruptly slapped him. It wasn't hard enough to really hurt, but it was definitely more than playful. "And that's for asking for a sneak preview," she giggled.

"So. Meet you here tomorrow, sidekick?" she winked.

Victor blinked in shock and rubbed his cheek. "... thank you miss, may I have another?" He asked before pulling his arms back in self defense. "Kidding! Kidding. Good things are worth waiting for. And I wouldn't miss this for anythin' in the world."

Melody cackled with glee. "Good. Call me," she grinned, and then planted a kiss on the cheek she'd smacked.

"I'd never forgive myself if I didn't toots." Victor said, his cheek red under Melody's lips, though not all of it from the smack. "If I don't, then you know I've been captured by the forces of evil. I'll try to leave you clues so you can come rescue me."
