DAThanksgiving: Phoenix, AZ

Ryan had been dropped off at a nice, safe landing point in Phoenix, Rachel's address in hand, and told to call for a lift once they were ready to leave. In the meantime, he supposed they'd be doing cutthroat black friday shopping, which he was more than happy to skip out on.

He consulted the address and directions he was given as he flew through Phoenix, gaining more than a few stares that he paid no attention to. Finally, he landed in Chandler, in the street outside the house that he was sure was the right one. Well... here goes nothing, Ryan thought, walking up to the door and ringing the bell.

A woman opened the door. Judging by the fact that she looked like an older version of Rachel, it seemed a fair bet that she was her mother, or possibly an aunt. "Hello." she said, smiling slightly "You must be Ryan."

Ryan smiled as the door was opened, seeming obviously a bit nervous, but still composed. "And you must be Ms. O'Brian," he said, offering her his hand. "It's good to finally meet you."

"Thank you," Ryan said, following her in. He thought for a minute, then checked his watch, counting time zones quickly before making a face. "I'm early, aren't I."

"Only by an hour." Heather said, smiling slightly "Please, come in and have a seat. Would you like something to drink?"

Ryan chuckled slightly. "Wow, I feel dumb. Yeah, if it isn't any trouble. Water's fine, I'm not picky."

"Water I can manage." Heather said "Have a seat" she added, gesturing toward the couch, and a few minutes later came back with two glasses of water and handed one to Ryan. "How was your flight?" she asked, sitting down across from him.

"Thats good to hear." Heather replied "Rachel was very impressed by how fast and comfortable her flights were." she added, watching his reaction closely.

"I'm sure it must be hard to avoid that, when you know so many people." Heather said "Rachel mentioned that she was going to be staying at the Avenger's Tower when she is in New York. Along with your other girlfriend, of course."

"Look," Ryan sighed. "I know how it looks. Trust me, I know how it looks, because trust me, I've had nightmares about this exact conversation for a couple weeks now. I love Rachel, I'm not trying to lead her along into something for cheap thrills or anything like that."

"Of course not. The thrills will be very, very expensive for Rachel." Heather said quietly "Rachel......she hasn't had the best history with relationships. I don't think she has any more trust in her, and I don't want my daughter to go through another few years of self-destructive promiscuity when you get bored."

"I've promised her that that won't happen," Ryan said quietly. "I don't want that to happen either. I'm not going to get bored, I'm not going to change my mind. I'm... not going to say it's all smooth sailing so far, Rachel's still got... well, a few trust issues, and I'll admit I've got abandonment issues all over the place. But we're working through it."

Ryan nodded. "I do," he admitted. "I've never wanted an elected office, though, and if lobbying won't work and I have to come up with a new plan, that's what I'll do."
