"You guess so?" She barely manages not to roll her eyes. "So you figured what the hell, why not?"

"He had to talk me into it, but yeah, it seems like a good idea so far. Probably going to get accused of selling out, but I think I can make people understand."

[Julia White]

"I can already see this is going to be a fun ride."

God, I hope not everyone he picks is like her.

"So how comes you let him talk you into it if you have to explain it to... people?"

[Ria Larsen]

"He's an intelligent and persuasive man. I'd have been stupid not to listen to him, and he made some good points. I'm still going to catch hell from my GeNDA buddies, but I've never been a 'smooth path' kind of woman."

[Julia White]

"Well, good for you. At least you're smart enough not to pass up an opportunity because it might look bad to your idealist friends."

[Ria Larsen]

"I'm an idealist too. I met Lord Cassiel when I asked him to support a movement to abolish the Acolytes. I still support that position. I'd love to see this office shut down in five years."

[Julia White]

"Way to bark up the wrong tree there, Sparkly."

[Ria Larsen]

"Hey, he read my pamphlet, and he gave me a job. I could have done worse."

[Julia White]

"Yeah, I'm sure that pamphlet convinced him to abolish his own position. Pretty sure you're going to be too busy handing out pamphlets now though, so there's that."

[Ria Larsen]

"Monarchist huh?" Ria smirks, but not nastily, teasing. "Well luckily there are folks fighting for your right to keep choosing that if you want. Just as long as you're cool with other choices being valid too."

[Julia White]

Now she does roll her eyes. "Yes yes, keep hopping around your moral highground until the last part of the government is bogged down with lobbying and bribery too. It'll be awesome!"

[Ria Larsen]

"I guess Cassiel didn't send you the files he sent me. You want to talk about bribery? That's already a huge problem, in fact, that's what he's currently crusading against."

[Julia White]

"I'm sure the Acolytes are all over accepting bribes to disobey Lord Magneto. Unlike the rest of the government. Who cares who you vote for when they're just gonna be bought out anyway."

[Ria Larsen]

"I thought I was supposed to be the cynical one. How's this supposed to work if we both get to be jaded?" She grins.

[Julia White]

"I'm not the one working for the office I want to see gone. You can write 'Voice of the people' on your banner all you want, but the problems aren't going to magically go away if you man every single position through election."

[Ria Larsen]

"Well my biggest problem so far is that the country that I love isn't very democratic. So it'll go a long way toward solving those problems."

[Julia White]

"No it won't! Ugh! You know what, nevermind. Idealists..."

[Ria Larsen]

"I see there's going to be some fun debates around the office. I'll lay off though. Hope I didn't actually make you mad."

"What music do you listen to?"

[Julia White]

"Yeah, it's gonna be great." she smiles with an intentionally pained expression, giving Ria two thumbs up, ignoring her 'Let's be friends' question.

[Ria Larsen]

"Oh come on, we have to work together, it'll be a pain if we're at each other's throats. Neither one of us is going to be making policy decisions. I've got no problem just saying away from talking politics and getting the job done, if you don't."

"I'd be great if we could argue about it and stay chill, but if it's going to be a problem, I'd rather not have the friction."

[Julia White]

"I have no problem working with you Sparkly. Doesn't mean we have to be friends."

[Ria Larsen]

Ria shakes her head. "Alright. Well, that's a loss for both of us I guess."

She pulls out her iPod Quantum, and slips the headphones onto her neck, pressing directly against the crystal. She takes a seat and waits for Cassiel, or someone else to show up.

[Jezabelle Sherlock]

"They really weren't relevant," he said, sounding dryly amused. "At least, in this office they weren't."

"All right, down to business. Unless I'm extremely busy, I come in at seven and leave at five. On any given day, barring special assignments that require special hours, you'll come in a half hour before I do, and you'll leave a half hour before I do, unless I tell you to cut out early. When you get in, you'll organize my messages, go over my appointments, and make sure that everything fits and nothing conflicts. I need to know what my day looks like as soon as I get in."

"You're the face and the voice that people get before they get to me. As such, you'll be polite to everyone, but not let anyone push you around. And when I say anyone, I mean anyone. Any assignment I give you, I'll be giving you my full authority to be doing what you're doing."

He stood, motioning for her to follow as he started out of the office and into the hall. "The first few days, there's probably going to be a lot of busy work. That'll change. When it does, you'll probably wish it hadn't. Now... on days that the schedule permits, there will be at least three hours of your schedule dedicated to an Accolyte training regimen. Do you have any prior training I should know about? Self defense, martial arts, anything like that?"

"This sounds like a lot of responsibility my Lord." Jez said, perhaps a bit of self doubt tainting her voice. "I will not let you down." She knew that being an intern would be a lot of work, but the personal assistant to one of the most powerful men in the nation? She was really going to have to do her best.

"I only have basic self-defense" she replied, as if it were an admission of guilt. "Most of my training has been to properly harness and control my unique abilities. I've undertaken extensive mental and telepathic training to become as good as I am. A fortunate side-effect is that I'm a little harder than most for many telepaths to read."

Did he say an Acolyte? I'm going to be an Acolyte!? Magneto's cape!

[Michael Asters]

"We'll work on that, then." He glanced at her, then chuckled slightly. "Relax. You're new at this, and I know that. The most important part of your job is that when I say I need something done, whatever it is, you do your best to get it done. Can you handle that?"

[Jezabelle Sherlock]

"Absolutely my Lord. When you ask for it, consider it done."

[Michael Asters]

"Good. Now... you aren't the only person working directly for me, but you're going to be the one I depend on to make sure I can do my job. I realize that I might lean on you a little more heavily than the others. Work through it, do a good job, and I'll make sure you're compensated for any extra headache you have to deal with."

He stopped in the hall, reaching into his pocket and pulling out two sets of keys. "Here. These ones is for the car that's reserved for me down in the carpool. You or someone on staff might need it, you're in charge of it. These are the keys to my flat in the government building and my beach house, I might need you get in there from time to time."

He closed his eyes for a moment, then opened them. "So... are you ready to meet your coworkers?"

[Jezabelle Sherlock]

"No joyriding and no parties while you're away." Jez crossed her heart. "I promise." She grinned widely, her excitement becoming more apparent.

"I think so my Lord." Jezabelle said softly. In truth she was a little nervous. On television anyone working under someone in power always ended up fighting and backstabbing each other to try and gain their favor. She really hoped it wouldn't be the case in this office.

[Michael Asters]

"Good, right in here."

Cassiel opened the door to the office, just missing the tail end of Ria and Julia's discussion. "Spectrum. Ladies. I see you've both been introduced, good. I see you haven't started hitting yet, even better. Spectrum, you can go, I'll take it from here." Spectrum, naturally, gave a little bow and left the room.

[Jezabelle Sherlock]

Jez followed Cassiel closely, stepping to the side once she'd entered the room. He kept her hands clasped on her folder in front of her skirt; she'd practiced the good little office lady look it seemed.

[Julia White]

"Lord Cassiel." She doesn't quite stand at attention but she does her best to be professional, nodding at the girl entering with him. "Hey."

[Michael Asters]

"Julia, Ria, this is Jezabelle. Jezabelle, these are going to be your co-workers in my office. Now, if you could step into the glass booth, it will measure you for your uniform."

[Julia White]

Crossfire looks the tiniest bit disgruntled, but knows better than to say anything.

[Ria Larsen]

Ria doesn't stand when he comes into the room, but she nods to Cassiel respectfully. She also turns off her iPod.

"Hi Jezebelle. Welcome to the team." She smiles.

[Jezabelle Sherlock]

"Hi. It's a pleasure to meet you both. I'm looking forward to working with you." Jezabelle smiled and bowed slightly. She tried her best not to come off as pretentious or snobby while still being formal and professional.

"Yes, my Lord." The girl said before stepping into the booth. She'd never really had a custom made suit before. The perks of the job seemed to be multiplying.

[Michael Asters]

The booth, like with the other girls, scanned Jezabelle, giving a little beep when finished. "Very good," Cassiel said. "Starting tomorrow, you'll all be spending at least three hours over in training until further notice, unless something comes up that I desperately need all three of you in the office longer than I expect. I'll have your training schedules written up before you come in. Make sure to bring a change of clothes for jogging, too. I don't have time to get over to work out most days, so when there's a chance, I like to do morning briefings on the run. Literally."

[Jezabelle Sherlock]

Jezabelle stepped out of the booth and shivered softly. Even though nothing had actually touched her the process of being scanned still gave her goosebumps.

[Ria Larsen]

Not so worried about sweating.

"Speaking of briefings, sir, I went over those files again and also through some of my own info. You probably know about this already, but on the off-chance that you don't..." She digs a usb drive out of her pocket and hands it to Cassiel. "One of the companies my dad consulted for had some weird accounting. I think it's connected to the stuff you sent."

[Julia White]

Idealist hippie and mousey girl afraid of scanners. Awesome. At least the training's gonna be fun.

She grins to herself for a moment while listening to Cassiel, leaning against the edge of the table.

[Michael Asters]

"I'm actually pretty sure it does," Cassiel sighed. "That's going to probably relate to your first assignment, which we can go over once we get back up to my office."

[Ria Larsen]

Ria nods. "Ready to get started whenever."
