Altamira's power is a mixture of both telepathy and telekinesis. She has all the normal flavors thereof--mind reading, moving things around with her mind, etcetera--and also a mental healing ability--she's able to 'funnel' out pain, mental scars and the like, empathically transferring them from the victim to another target--usually herself, though another willing volunteer could be used (or, in theory, an UNwilling volunteer, but that's not only more difficult, but is also pretty unethical).


BACKGROUND: The origins of Altamira are a mystery--she's an orphan, and there are no records of her birth parents; she was just found, deposited at an orphanage, no note, no nothing. As she was found in Santillana del Mar, she was named after he Cuevas de Altamira.
Altamira was a ward of the state; she was never actually adopted, a first due to just random chance and poor luck, but later due to her mutant powers developing; no one adopts the poor telepathic child. The power developing at the onset of her teen years was quite surprising--it took her several years before she could distinguish between 'thoughts' and 'words'. She achieved good grades in school, and eventually enrolled at Xaviers University with a full scholarship.

Did this traumatic backstory bring her down? Is she forever traumatized by this?

NO.

Altamira is upbeat, happy, and cheerful. She's well meaning, but more than slightly scatter-brained. She has a near-obsession with 'justice' and 'love' and 'truth', up to a point where she'll actually make long, loud, and involved speeches, much to the annoyance of anyone within earshot. Often believes the very force of her convictions will be enough to solve problems. She firmly believes that, not only does everything happen for a reason, but it happens for a very good reason--everything is for the best, no matter what. Pollyanna crossed with Pangloss.
