Downtime Week 2 - Paging Will

[Sara Stanton]

Having grabbed a quick snack during a break between classes Sara's sitting on one of the benches in the Quad. Holding her handy she seems to be pondering something before giving herself a push and writing out a quick message to Will.
'meet me in the Quad as soon as you get this. play-time =)'

[Will Stanton]

Four minutes later, Will came jogging over, casually.

"Sara! Decided to eat in the open air today?" he asked, 'surprised' to see her there.

[Sara Stanton]

"Wow, that was fast..." she says quiet enough so no one who isn't nearby can hear her. "Yeah, I figured the weather's somewhat nice enough for it." she smiles and pats the empty spot next to her on the bench.

[Will Stanton]

Will quickly, yet casually, sat down next to her. "Sure is. Last few days of peaceful weather, hrm?" he said, smiling.

[Sara Stanton]

"Depends on what you call peaceful, but soon it propably won't be too pleasent outside most of the time..."

[Will Stanton]

"Of course, no, it won't," he said, sliding a little closer to Sara on the bench. "We'll have to watch this from indoors."

[Sara Stanton]

She sneaks an arm around Will's waist. "Speaking of indoors, I gotta get back to class soon. I kind of managed to lose my pen on the way over here though, so I'm gonna need you to pitch in. I have to take my notes somehow, you see..." she smiles.

[Will Stanton]

Will's muscles tensed up, and Will turned his head slowly to look at Sara, trembling just slightly.

"W-would you like me to go back to your room and f-find you a new pen?" he asked, adding "ma'am," a little quieter, with no marsupials in sight.

[Sara Stanton]

"Hmm... no... propably not enough time for that." Although for the fact that she's claiming time as a factor she doesn't seem particularly hurried. "You can do a pen, right?"

[Will Stanton]

"Ballpoint or fountain?" he asked, tilting his head to the side.

[Sara Stanton]

"I haven't written with a fountain pen in ages, so ballpoint."

[Will Stanton]

"Yes, ma'am." Will said, as his clothes crumpled on the bench.

[Sara Stanton]

She smiles and picks through the pile of clothes, folding them and putting them away in her bad before picking up the pen that's left lieing on the bench. Putting it into her pocket she gets up and heads to class.

[Will Stanton]

Will had intentionally left all his senses present, so he felt Sara left him up and place him in her pocket, patting it as the world started quaking around him, up and down and up and down and up and down...

After making her way to the lecture hall she sits down (not in one of the front rows for once) and waits for the class to starts. Looking at her watch she figures she still has some time and gets out notes from earlier in the day as well as her 'new' pen and, somewhat nervously, goes about getting some course-work done while the lecture hall slowly fills with people.

The pen's got that 'new-pen feel', gliding across the page with ease. It's got a nice, solid weight to it, without being way too heavy, and a really comfortable grip. No skipping, no blotting, just perfect curves on the paper. It's balanced, it's sleek, it's professional looking. This is a well-made pen.

[Sara Stanton]

She stops for a moment as if to say something, but figures she might end up looking somewhat crazy talking to her pen. Instead she picks an empty page and writes 'I don't know how you do it, but you make an amazing pen', figuring Will might pick up on it.

[Will Stanton]

The pen clicks three times.

[Sara Stanton]

She smiles softly and flips to a new page as Dr McCoy enters and makes his way to the front of the class and the next two hours are pretty much filled with Sara taking notes about a bunch of genetic mechanisms and functions.

[Will Stanton]

Will totally tunes out Dr. McCoy, as this is levels beyond him, focusing instead on Sara's fingers and her concentrated face.

He's thinking about particular uses of both when he forgets to keep the ink flowing.

Sara frowns as her pen suddenly stops working and taps Will on the paper, drawing some squiggly lines to get him working again.

[Will Stanton]

That's enough to get him back focused, as he hurriedly realizes he screwed up...and in his hurry, accidentally lets out too MUCH ink for a minute, splattering on the page a bit.

[Sara Stanton]

At the ink splattering on the page and partly over her notes she frowns even more, although more in general annoyance and not so much directed at Will for now. Thinking a moment though she goes back to the mostly empty page and writes 'What was that just now? I need a pen that works, not one that makes a mess out of my notes.'

[Will Stanton]

The pen clicks three times. Slowly.

[Sara Stanton]

She (propably correctly) interprets the slow clicks as Will being sorry and writes 'You better be.' on the page. Adding 'I'm very disappointed' after a moment's consideration before going back to paying attention to what's on the board and catching up with her notes..

[Will Stanton]

Will is an exemplary pen for the rest of the lecture, not missing a single beat, working in tandem with Sara to produce well-written notes.

After the lecture she puts Will away with the rest of her notes in her bag and heads out towards the dorms.

[Will Stanton]

The world quakes around Will as he quakes, too, waiting to see what lies in store for a pen that doesn't work...
