Sept 30 - DR - Venting Steam

Postby Kathrin Schmidt » Fri Jun 12, 2009 3:19 pm

After stepping into the room Kathrin fiddles around with the Danger Room controls for a bit to load up a generic skyscraper landscape and put the damage settings down to almost nothing. After a few trial and error commands she lets the computer populate the city with random thugs and takes a look at the scenery.

There, stuff to punch, no risk of rebreaking my jaw. God, I can't believe I'm doing the responsible thing and using a stupid simulation. She frowns at herself. Just remember that it's a make-shift solution for now. I'll go and do the real deal with Jayda in a few days.

With that out of the way Kathrin takes a look down the corridor of row after row of skyscrapers, gets a running start and catapults herself up and into the canyon of glass and steel. Curving her path towards the front of one of the buildings she tumbles into a roll against the side of the building before pushing herself off again to gain more heigth, leaving a bunch of cracked windows behind at the spot from where she flung herself off.

Winston gawked through the viewing window at the scene before him, skyscrapers, lots of them, inside a room that should have been considerably too small to contain them. He'd heard tales about the Danger Room but he still hadn't expected its projections to look so vividly realistic.

Having convinced himself to come down and give it a try to ensure he was in better shape since his injuries, he'd been watching since not to long after Kathrin had entered to see how it worked and finally built up the courage to venture downstairs and enter the scenario.

Upon entering Winston decided to try and head towards Kathrin, despite the fact she seemed to be going far faster than he could hope to travel, and she was several hundred feet above him. Win still took in his surroundings as he walked and eventually realised he was slowly being surrounded by a mob of angry looking civilians.

"Additional participant detected in hte simulation." the computer's voice rings out as Winston enters.
Coming to a rest on the side of one of the skyscrapers Kathrin peers down towards the entry point, barely making out more than small specks of people. Lessening the grip of her powers she lets herself slide down the front of the building, occasionally jumping forwards across the street until she spots Winston and the group of simulated thugs.

Putting her faith in the completely unrealistic parameters she put in Kathrin hurls herself up for some momentum before landing right in the middle of the group, the gravitational push she uses to slow herself down literally throwing the thugs back several yards in a circle around her.
Standing up from the crouch she landed in she grins at Winston. "Hey there."

Winston barely managed to stay standing as Kathrin lands, his power absorbing the pressure exerted from her landing, though he still stumbled back a few steps.

"Hi, thanks for dropping by," Winston said with a small wave, paying the thugs virtually no heed as they began to get back to their feet, "You don't mind if I join, do you?"

"Go ahead. Don't expect a big challenge though, I've set the place up for blowing off some steam, not training." Glancing at one of the people advancing from her side she throws a punch that'd normally be a good feet away from actually reaching the thug if it wasn't for him suddenly being pulled forward and practically throwing his face into Kat's fist before collapsing.

Winston smiled as Kats' goon crumpled, walking towards one himself as he said, "So this is all just for funsies?"

The thug he walked towards broke out into a short sprint, rearing to punch Win as he charged his own hand. The thugs blow fell short as Winston took a step back. With the fist inches from him, Winston now slapped the hand aside explosivley, causing his foe to recoil, yelp and leave himself exposed to a charged kick to a most sensitive area.

With a slightly larger smile Winston turned back to Kathrin as his opponent doubled over, "This is very fun."

"Basically. It'd just head into town, but I'm still a roughed up from the mission, so I'm doing the 'responsible' thing." She rolls her eyes at the word before ducking under a punch being thrown her way and responding with a crouched kick to the thug's stomach that sends him flying into a storefront.

"Head into town for a fight? Why when you've got masses of...this? I mean the potential this thing has." Winston asked, still looking at her even when he was punched in the back. His back charged quickly and exploded around the fist in response and Winston followed it up by turning around and decking the goon in the face.

"Because it's not real. It's like playing a sophisticated video-game. There's no real thrill when the worst consequences are some bruises and the simulation shutting off." Pointing it out like that she suddenly seems to lose alot of interest in what she's doing, the remaining thugs still going for her suddenly running into a wall of gravity keeping them at a few feet distance from Kat.

"Games can still thrill, haven't you ever played strip poker, and I can't legally do this outside of here can I?" Winston said as he grabbed the head of the next thug, two more were punching his sides and head to seemingly little effect whilst Winston dragged his captured goon so Kat could better see as he detonated his palm around its head.

"That sounded a bit macabre didn't it." Winston mumbled as he shoved the other two goons aside, mispronouncing macabre.

"Yeeaaah... I'm really not squeamish, but that's not something you show off to a girl with." She keeps up the serious expression for a few moments before laughing out loud. "But no, seriously, that really isn't something to actually do. I guess for me it's not really about beating people up, more the thrill of doing something reckless and dangerous and proove I come out the other side just fine, ya know."

"Oh...right...sorry." Winston turned slightly red and hid his still-dripping goon-soaked hand behind his back, "and exactly, kinda, you can do all sorts of things here that you'd never be able to do out there...but I guess I get what you mean too, it's not the same if it's not real."

Winston kicked one of the still moving thugs before his memory jolted him, "And it's not the same without the huge number of witnesses, are we still on to film you jumping off of Big Ben?"

"Well you might not want many witnesses to something like that." she nods towards the headless thug. "But yeah, of course. Just need a few days for my jaw to heal properly. Hopefully it shouldn't take too long. Maybe this saturday."

"Uh, I wouldn't normally, um, do something like that," Winston winced slightly as he lowered himself into a crouch, wiping his hands on the back of a downed thug, his mid-section still hurt to bend.

"What happend to your jaw?"

"...I barely know either of those people, seen them in classes, never talked to them," Winston looked thoughtfully at Kathrin, trying to think of a pleasanter direction to take the conversation, unsure if talking about how she got injured was the best topic for the moment.

He finished rubbing his hands clean, only cracks of red visible in the creases of his palm, "Um...the doctors here do a good job, most people I've seen have healed in notime and in the meantime your jaw seems to be working fine."

"That's good news," Winston said as he got to his feet and tried to walk over to her, though her gravity powers kept him at bay as it also did the few opponents left. Winston stared at those trapped up against a wall as he continued talking, "Do you want to amp up the difficulty on this? I dunno, something harder to beat up, something 'sneakier'...something which has more of a chance of beating us up?"

He turned his head over to face Kathrin, "You said earlier you'd like to do something dangerous and reckless, you can try keeping your jaw intact throughout this."

"Well the whole reason why I'm here and not outside is because I was going to do the responsible thing for once and not risk messing it up again. Besides, check how this place works..." Letting her bubble of gravity collaps she pushes herself off the ground and a good 50 feet into the air before letting herself plummet towards the ground again. Before she slams into the ground the simulation automatically slows her down again until she lies on the floor and the whole scene flickers and turns off.

"Potential death or incapacitation of combatant detected. Ending simulation."

Getting up from the now blank steel floor she pretends to brush non-existant dust off her legs. "See? It doesn't let you get hurt anyway. There are some settings that give you ome bruises, but the really realistic stuff is locked."

Winston frowned as the skyscrapers and figures dissapear around him, leaving him and kat alone in a blank room, "Your point before, taken. Makes it all seem... a little pointless if you know nothing bad can happen...which is what you were trying to tell me before."

Winston sighed and scratched at his cheek contemplativley, "We could still fight each other." He suggested with a shrug, "If we do it here it'll stop us before we get hurt and I'm sure we can come up with something bad for the loser to have to trial through."

Winston moved his scratching hand over to the back of his neck and seemed to be genuinely confused, "Not too sure. I guess one could reimburse the other for something like drinks, dinner and/or a movie ticket ...or just hand over a lump sum of cash."

"Relax, I'm just messing with you." she laughs. "And some extra cash would be neat, but that's boring. We should make it about something stupid and embarassing, like loser has to streak across the Quad, just not quite as drastic."

"Oh, yea, me too." Winston laughed at Kathrins suggestion, "That could be good, maybe something a little less out there but along those lines..."

Winston eyed Kats apparel for a moment and smirked, "Huh, how about if you lose you just have to end up wearing something...I dunno, along the lines of a 'frilly pretty princess pink' dress for a day? And still give me a £20...I need money."

"Wo-no no, not a two-way bet that, you're quasi-excused if you wear the dress, I'd be better off streaking." Winston stammered dismayingly, "this place is fine, but please hit me with a different deal."

"I think you're understimating just how embarassing that'd be for me as well. I wouldn't even wear something pink or frilly in private, much less both and in public, but fine, just taking a stroll across the Quad in it then and not a whole day wearing it."

"Sure. Computer, reload the previous scenario without the opponents, same realism settings, keep track of the damage we take and let us know when one of us would have passed out or would be otherwise incapacitated."

The cityscape flickers back into existance around the two.
"Ready when you are." Kathrin smirks at Winston, shifting into a fighting stance.

Winston smirked back and stretched out his arms, charging his left one as he did so, "Ready."

He broke out into a sprint at his opponent, the balls of his feet exploding after a few steps and propelling him towards her with an outstretched hand, the other uncharged one protectively cradeled around his mid-section.

Damn, he's even more hot-headed than me. She grins confidently and calmly stands her ground as Winston charges, clenching her fist as he gets close and uses her power just enough to let herself get pushed to the side, feet hovering a few inches off the ground as she lets Winston charge past her.
Trying not to give him too much time to stop himself she firmly plants her feet on the ground and reaches out with her hands to let her powers grab a hold of him and whips him around her before letting go again, trying to let him slingshot into the nearest wall from his own momentum.

Winston quickly made friends with a wall of concrete as Kat whipped him around with her power, smashing him into the side of the building, leaving a small dent in its side.

Dam, it's going to take a while before I can suprise her again, Winston stretched his back a little as he got back to his feet, feeling slightly nauseaus from having his world literally turned upsidedown, though besides from a quick stumble on the spot he seemed fairly unfazed. He span around on the spot, the frame of the automatic doors next to the dent having been bent out of whack, leaving the doors semi-open and allowing Winston to slide in between them, holding his charged arm at an angle against the glass doors he released its pent up energy, spraying shards of glass in Kats direction.

Kat's grin falters a little as Winston just shrugs off his surprise-meeting with the wall. For a second she wonders what he's mucking about with over there before shattered glass explodes towards her. Cowering down she creates a sphere of gravity strong enough to clear a safe corridor through the shrapnel.
After the last pieces of glass clatter to the ground around and behind her she stands up and decides to up the stakes, Winston seems to be able to take more than she expected afterall. Dashing off along the street she comes to a stop next to a motorcycle. She might not be overly strong, but that barely matters when you can make things weigh less. She lifts up the bike and drags it closer to Winston before hurling it at him, the thing crashing down towards him with it's regular weigth once it leaves Kat's hands.

Winston had slipped back outside as Kat turned away, briefly admiring the dented wall before turning back to give chase after Kathrin, only to instead be faced by a Motorbike in mid-air, it didn't take too much effort for Winston to side-step it, though once the bikes front-wheel hit the pavement the rest of it swivelled, smacking Winston in the chest as it came down.

Winston stood, straining to stop the Motorbikes weight from sending him to the floor before he used a light blast to flip it away. He frowned at Kat from further down the street before again running towards her, glancing at his surroundings as he scampered nearer.

"There's more to your mutation that just the exploding bits, huh?" she shouts over to him as he charges again. Assuming the same trick propably won't work twice she pushes herself into the air and clings to the 6th story windows of the building next to her. Holding on to the frame she pushes her feet against the glass and after a second or two of protesting sounds from the pane it explodes inwards, Kathrin disappearing through the hole.

Winston smirks at Kat as she talks, though the glee quickly dissapears as she shoots herself skyward and smashes her way into one of the skyscrapers.

"No! Don't Run!" Winston shouted despairingly, though he'd intended to only keep the thought to himself. Great, he pondered how to proceed as he slowed himself down outside of the building, counting up the stories to the smashed window Kat had entered. Now she has just as much, no, probably more of a chance of catching me by suprise...and we could end up spending hours searching for each other in there.

With a frown and a shrug Winston strolled through the automatic doors into the building, glanced around for the door to the stairs and upon finding it, broke out into a jog, intent on getting up to the 6th floor without tiring himself out.
