McManus Hall: Room 16 (Team 1 Meeting)

The basement room has a few chairs and a meeting table set up. The door locks with a keypad but is propped open. There's an industrial elevator in the back corner of the room.

Lumis is waiting there well before 8pm.

Ryan was the first in for the meeting, nodding politely to Lumis and to Morrigan as he took his seat.

Zoe arrives a few minutes after Ryan, nervous but doing her best to hide it. She's in uniform as requested, and has toned down her accessorizing to a more functional level; an extra belt with a hip-holster arrangement buckled around the thigh, designed to hold a few small items rather than a gun. She chews on her lip as she nods to the teachers present.

Anita heads in five minutes early, wearing her uniform and her guns. She nods to people as she comes in and takes a seat by Ryan, sitting quietly with her right leg crossed over the left.

After Will arrives, and the appointed time is reached, Lumis stands up.

"Alright, I believe we have located the source of the mystic disturbances that have been harassing the students and campus. The sorcerer consultant we requested has pinpointed a spot well up the Thames where these events are originating. That spot is not very far from the Stark facility that was hit, and currently I'm doubting it's a coincidence."

"Morrigan here is going to advise you on dealing with magic and general witchery. However, we're not trying to kill the person causing the disturbances, we believe that it's a human, and that person can hopefully be reasoned with. Because the creatures have proven to be dangerous, I'm sending our most combat-capable team to do the negotiating."

Lumis hands Sam a dossier with the name, "Kyllian Kell Boddicker" on it. "This is who Liam believes is behind it, but he's only 70% percent certain or so."

"Great. Magic," Ryan muttered, chuckling slightly. Anything he could understand, even in concept, he had no problem with. Magic? He had no idea what to make of magic.

Zoe frowns as well and shifts in her seat at the mention of magic, leaning forward to pay closer attention.

"First and foremost what you have to realize is that these creatures do not operate off of thought processes that you or I would consider rational. The sort of singsong logic of faerie tales is physical law to them, and thus this can make them both more and less predictable than regular people."

"These creatures are for the most part shaped by human belief in them. This means they value things which are essentially nonsensical to us, and fear things equally as bewildering. It often has to do with their individual myths. A given creature might be driven to count the pebbles thrown at them, or fear standing in the shadow of anything."

"I'm sending the team in to negotiate as a top priority, though don't hesitate to defend yourself if you are attacked. It is possible that your target will have set some of these creatures as guards, so even if you have to fight your way in, you still might be able to talk to the sorcerer causing the problem."

"Now, I chose Team 1 for this because you are the most combat capable team. However, you may encounter something that is beyond your abilities. If you do, get out right away. We will be standing by for an extraction just in case. As far as your negotiating position, there are a few things you can offer the sorcerer. You should start with the most attractive ones first, such as a civil conversation with Samantha here, since he seems to have some interest in contacting her. If he did hit the Stark facility, we can provide him with whatever medical aid he might need much better than almost anyone else. If he is looking for some kind of artifact, we can offer to negotiate with the British government to help him get access to it."

"Failing all those options, you can explain that in exchange for no longer harassing the university, we will refrain from sending multiple omega-level X-Men his way. Or if he's belligerent, and seems within your capabilities, you can capture him yourselves instead of making that threat."

"Any questions?"

"Just leave yourself an escape route at all times, and if you're afraid you'll lose your team, back out rather than causing a confrontation."

"Looks like we're about ready. Seraph, I have something for you." Lumis fishes something out of his pocket, and walks over to Ryan. It's a small jewlery box. Inside are a pair of silver epaulet pins, much like the gold ones that Lumis is wearing. He pins them on Ryan's shoulders.

"Good luck, all of you. The elevator there will take us all down to the next level, and from there we'll proceed to our underground dock."

Zoe grins and breaks out into applause as Ryan is pinned. Still awash with nervous energy, she springs to her feet and gets ready to follow the team down to the departure zone.

Ryan tried to look serious, but couldn't completely fight back the grin tugging at his lips as he was pinned. "Thank you, sir."

He smirked at Anita as they headed to the elevator. "Congratulate me after we pull this off without me screwing it up."

She shook her head slightly as she made her way down. She didn't much like putting a team on the line when she was being targeted like this, but it was Dom's call rather than hers.

Lumis leads the team down the elevator and then through a concrete tunnel. On the other side of the tunnel is a small underground dock at the Thames water level, some of the river diverted in to make a dock for four speedboats and one larger vessel.

There's a driver already in one of the speedboats, when the team enters he warms up the engine.

"Here's your ride. The driver has the coordinates, but as a precaution, here's the map with your coordinates. It's on the bank of the Thames, some distance out of the city. You are probably facing a man who calls himself Kyllian Kell Boddicker, or sometimes he calls himself Wildpride. However, it might be another sorcerer. Just be careful, keep cool, and always have an eye out to your safety and you'll get through this fine."

She nods and heads into the boat, keeping her balance easily in spite of the shifting surface. She opens the bags and does a quick check on the equipment. She's hardly a tech, but she knows enough to make sure the batteries are charged and frequencies set up properly. While she's at it, she takes stock of the first-aid supplies to get a better idea of what's available.

The boat comes steaming in, with the battered, bruised, bloodied, yet unbowed team 1 returning.

"Your lilliputian heroes have returned!" Will says, in good spirits despite his pain.
