The first day of class has arrived and the campus is buzzing with activity. The morning features many bleary-eyed students stumbling to make it to class. By the time mid-day rolls around, the dining halls and Quad are more full than they've been before, with students grabbing a quick bite between classes, or studying out on the lawn in the crisp, clear fall day.
It's a day of introductions, with many students meeting each other, and meeting most of their professors for the first time. To the horror of many students who are fresh from high school, not only does the first day include homework, but many classes give out a syllabus with a rigorous reading scedule, then launch right into an introductory lecture.
Students are apt to stick a lot more closely to campus now, there's a lot less time to roam the city when you have to read four chapters by Friday.
