Suit 450: Teri, Veronica, Melody, Kaylee

Having arrived just in time for the start of classes early on the 15th Teri dumped the little luggage she had into the dorm and grins as she notices the other three rooms being empty.
Nice, Good. Empty. Own. Ours. looks like I got the place to myself.

Leaving her things packed up in one of the rooms she hurries off to find out when and where her classes are.

Veronica was supposed to have arrived before other students in order to partake in the freshmen orientation ceremonies. However she had experience a bit of trouble with her passport, mostly due to the height category being filled in as "variable". Things had been worked out and after a confusing and jet-lagged trip through the city by means of tube, bendy bus and black cab she had arrived at the university.

"Oyster, that's a silly name for a card" the petite girl mused to herself as she made her way into the suite, it's size exceeding her expectations of housing sizes in the city. After a couple of unanswered "hello"s she put her things in one of the vacant rooms. Classes could wait a day, she'd just be a zombie through them. But tomorrow was going to be a very, very busy day. With a heavy sigh she threw herself onto the bare mattress of her bed, too tired to go to the cafeteria and settle the gnawing hunger in her stomach.

Teri returns to the dorm after her lunch break, pondering the possibility of getting started on unpacking her things as she spots the door to one of the other rooms being closed. roommate? mustbe knock?

She walks over to Veronica's room and knocks on the door. "Hello? Anyone in there?"

From behind the door came a soft thud, followed by some mumbling.

"Come in!" Veronica called out, sitting on the floor from where she had rolled off the end of her bed.

Teri opens the door and pokes her head in.
"Hey, looks like we have a room-mate afterall. Name's Teri and why are you sitting on the floor?" she asked, sounding slightly amused.

"I just slept kinda funny is all" Veronica said, pulling herself to her feet.

"Veronica. Nice to meetcha roomie." The short girl offered her hand.

She peers down at the outstretched hand. "Oh right. Nice to meet you too." Grabbing Veronica's hand she shakes it. "It seemed odd that the dorm was still empty on the first day of classes. Did you just arrive today?"

Veronica smiled wide, squeezing Teri's hand tight as she shook it. "Uh huh! I woulda been here yesterday by my plane was overbooked and I got bumped." Her eyes widened a bit as she got a good look at the other girl.

"Oh my goodness, your eyes!" She covered her mouth with her other hand before continuing. "They're so pretty!"

Teri nods as she listens to the girl. At Vernica mentioning her eyes and, what she assumes, gasping Teri looks horribly bored for a second, waiting for the usual reaction to pass. yesyes inevitable hereitcomes

As Veronica goes on she blinks. "Wait, what?"

Teri lets out a short laugh. "Nothing, nothing. We're just surprised someone actually likes them. I don't think we've heard that before."

"Aww, that's a shame. Ever since I first went to the Institute back in the States I've been amazed at just how beautiful some people's powers made 'em. You know, blue skin, glow-in-the-dark hair, horns, stuff like that."

Veronica leaned to the side, glancing behind Teri. "Ah... who is we?"

"Oh, that'd be us. Uhm... 'me'. Sorry, we know it confuses people."
Teri's hair thins out a little as a handfull of locust crawl out of it and start buzzing through the room.
"We're just used to referring to ourselves that way."

Veronica does look a little shocked, but not horrified.

"Oh, wow. I'm gonna have to be careful not to slap any mosquito that lands on me without checkin' first."

"Much appreciated." Teri smiles for just a moment. "But don't worry, we don't land on people or crawl around on them. We know that alot of you are creeped out by it. Besides, you wouldn't jump on someone while they're sleeping either, would you?", she jokes. Although the tone of her voice suggests that she isn't actually 100% sure of it.

"That makes sense" Veronica smiled, settling down. "Still, I'll be careful. Promise." She didn't feel the need to mention she grew up on a farm, or what they tended to do when locusts were around.

The grasshoppers fly a few circles around Teri's head before disappearing into her hair again.
"And we'll try not to hang around the common room that way too much. It's good to have a room-mate that doesn't get too grossed out by insects though.

Oh and don't hesitate to tell us if we step on your toes somehow, sometimes we have trouble with customs and things."

"Later Teri!" Veronica said cheerfully, sitting down on her bed once the girl had left. She was happy to have such a cool roommate but couldn't help but feel sorry for her. A lot of people were squeamish about bugs, it must make life difficult for Teri. So Veronica decided to make things a little easier by being as good a roommate as she possibly could.

Friday, September 17, 1:30 a.m.
Moving in had been a bit more difficult than she had anticipated, in spite of Cal's help. The easiest path between the hotel and the school was currently undergoing some sort of emergency utility work, so they had to take a one block extra detour. Adding to that, was the discovery that her hotel keycard had been somehow demagnetized requiring a long wait at the line for the front desk. Finally though, after two trips to carry stuff, with a few breaks along the way, Melody and Cal staggered into the room for one final time. She was sweaty and tired, and hoped she wasn't waking up her roommates.

Melody fell onto her unmade bed, her feet dangling off the edge and into the center of the room and let out a long sigh. "Thank God I had your help," she chuckled. "Thank you so much for being such a good sport about this."

"Hey, not your fault the city was working against us," Cal said. He didn't seem to be any less tired from hauling the luggage, but he seemed to have a much easier time balancing his share of it. "Aaaaaand that would be the last of it. You're officially moved in. Except for the unpacking. Okay, I guess you're not."

"I think unpacking for tonight will consist of putting a sheet on my bed and passing the fuck out. And showering. If I can move. I'm having a hard time doing that right now," she chuckled. "Have a seat somewhere, I can't immediately kick you out after giving me so much help all night."

A pea-sized mote of blue light landed with a plop on Cal's belly and then popped with a loud snap that probably felt like a slap.

Sighing, she sat up from her reclined position and looked around the room sleepily. "Okay. Help me put the sheets on this damn bed so I can pass out, would ya?"

Melody gave him a weary smile, "We'll see about that."

Gladly, she accepted his hand and rose, then started digging through her boxes until she found where her bedstuffs had been placed. She handed him a corner of the bottom sheet and directed him to one corner of the bed while she worked the opposite corners. It took a few minutes, but was largely pretty easy work. Once they were done, she smiled brightly at Cal.

"Thanks so much for doing this. I owe you big time," she said. "Beer and more cheap cafeteria food on me?" she asked

"Tell you what... there's supposed to be a party tomorrow in town. How about we keep each other company there and call it even? And if that's too much for me to ask in return, then I'll make the difference up to you with beer and real food somewhere," Cal said as he tucked the last corner in.

"Deal," she smiled, walking him towards the door. "Here's my number," she said pulling out a business card she'd had printed up with her new number e-mail address. "Don't laugh. This was way easier to give to my family than anything else, and I had a lot of extras." she smiled.

Melody opened the door and leaned in, giving Cal a light kiss on the cheek. "Thanks again for the help. Call me or IM me about the party. Night."

Cal looked at the card, then smiled. "All right. Shoot me an IM whenever you want. Especially during class. I get bored. And I'll talk to you tomorrow."

He waited until she closed the door, then grinned, walking lightly back down the hall on his way to the other dorm.
