DT 10 - Second Date? No catch? I must be dreaming.

Trev walked up to Chloe's door with a bunch of flowers in his hand, and a smile on his face. Since it was going to be a pretty casual date in the XUB to watch baseball and grab dinner, Trev was wearing a pair of shorts, sandals, and a black White Sox jersey. He took a deep breath with a smile and knocked on the door.

Derek, dressed much more nicely than Trev (dressy-casual, I suppose), turned the corner in the housing hallway, his own hand also holding very carefully selected flowers, not immediately noticing Trev as he reflectively hoped that Chloe would like the place he was taking her to dinner. He stopped, though, a couple feet away as Trev knocked on the door, eyeing the guy appraisingly. Does Lucy have a date too? Ah geez, did Chloe turn this into a double date and not tell me?

Trev didn't seem to notice Derek, and pulled out his phone to look at something while he waited.

Chloe opened the door "Trev!" she exclaimed "Its nice to see you, but I thought you were coming over tomorrow."

Derek's gaze fixed on Trev as he was identified, his eyes narrowing into a much-less-friendly-than-normal-for-Derek look as he studied the boy again.

"T...tomorrow?" he asked. "Not unless I completely mis-understood that text message. The game's tonight. Only afternoon, central time, game this week." he smiled.

Then he felt the eyes burning into the side of his head, and took notice of Derek.

"Oh...?"

There's *always* a catch...

"I...uh..." he looked from Derek, then back to Chloe, then back to Derek.

"Oh, bugger." Chloe said "I got the day wrong and...." she darted her eyes back and forth between the two boys.

Derek forced himself to remember (and acknowledge) that he really had no right to get indignant about any of this. Well, all right, it wasn't unreasonable to be pissed that someone else showed up at a girl's door with you when you had a date with her, but... he had to face it, Chloe might not see it that way. "Hi," he said, in a voice that was at least neutral, if not friendly. "I'm Derek."

"Trev..." he said uneasily, holding his hand out for a shake. "I...can leave, if you two have something going on," he said awkwardly. "I mean. we were just going to grab a beer and watch some baseball."

"A new fondue bar that opened last week," he said, testing Trev's grip as he shook his hand, feeling his stomach sinking that the idea hadn't even gone over well enough for her to remember what it was.

"Oh, thats right!" Chloe exclaimed "Its in the part of Mutant Town that they are trying to revitalize. I was worried it might be a bit dangerous."

"I...see," Trev said, trying hard not to flinch, and gripping just as hard. "Well...I mean....there's plenty of baseball games in the season. We can always just do this again."
