Sept 18 - An early breakfast

Postby Niles Radcliff » Thu Apr 02, 2009 2:14 am

Niles got up very early in the morning and headed to the cafeteria in search of something to eat. The first shops had just opened a bit before he got there so the place was mostly empty.

He got himself a cup of tea as well as couple of muffins, then took a seat at a nearby table.

Kaylee entered, wheeling her luggage behind her. She was more than happy to be back on land. Only one thing was on her mind now and it was food. She moved through the first line she found open and loaded up her tray with enough food to feed three people.

She balanced it on one arm, somewhat clumsily as she moved towards the tables. In fear of dropping her tray, she yelped and set it down right on the table across from Niles. "Whew.."

Niles noticed as the woman coming his way almost dropped her tray. "Well, That was close"

He took a glance at the luggage she had with her. "So, did you just get here?"

"Yeah. Sorry about that.." She said with a hint of embarrassment to her voice. She nodded and took a seat. "Yep..you've gotta love those morning flights."

Niles took a long sip of tea before responding.

"Not really sure about morning flights, but bus and train rides early in the morning sure aren't fun. Was it a long flight?"

She shrugged. "It really could of been worse. I'm just grumpy since I didn't really get much sleep."

She was just about to grab her fork before stopping herself. "Oh! I'm Kaylee!"

"Good to meet you Kaylee, I'm Niles"

“I got plenty of sleep last night. I was out at a party but didn't feel so good, so I headed back to my dorm and went to sleep early”

"It's nice to meet you Niles!"

She frowned. "Aw. That's too bad. I hope you're feeling much better now. I'm sure there's more parties to come anyway."

"Good then!" She smiled then finally started to eat. After a moment, she spoke again. "So, Niles. Mind telling me about yourself? Where you're from? What can you do? All that good stuff."

"Well, I'm from Eastbourne, that's another town here in England. As for what can I do, well I make stuff. Its easier to just show you, I'm not even sure how or why it works."

Niles moves his hand to point at an clear area of the table he is at. "Now watch closely"

A circular area on the table starts to glow with purpleish light, the glow rises up and gets a little wider as it goes up. The glow then quickly dissipates and a purple cup is now standing in the formerly empty spot.

“Well, that is basically it. So, what about you?”

She leaned forward, ready to view the demonstration. She watched Niles create the cup with a pretty amazed expression on her face. "Oohh! That's really neat." She reached out towards it and gave it a poke with the tip of her index finger. "Not gonna burn me right?"

"As for me, I'm from Portland, Oregon back in the United States. My power's well..I dunno. It's kinda gross." She giggled.

"No, it doesn't burn. The things I create function pretty much like a normal solid object."

"So your power, is it so gross you won't tell me at all, or just so gross that it would be better to wait until I finish eating?"

"Awesome!" She picked up the cup and brought it closer for a better look. "That is really cool Niles. How long do the items stick around?"

She thought about his question. "Maybe the later. That's if you want me to show you it."

"I can disappear them almost at will. They will also start to break down if I completely forget about them, get far enough away from them, or lose consciousness."

He takes another sip of his tea.

"You can show me you power some other time then, it can't be that bad."
He thought to himself that maybe it could be that bad, but he was too curious to find out what this mystery power was to let that thought stop him.

She tossed the cup into the air and caught it. She was fairly amused by the power. "Being able to make anything you want when you feel like it. It's almost a little godly huh?" She thought out loud.

She smirked. "Okay! I will. Maybe it's really not as bad as I think."

"It can be extremely useful, but I wouldn't call it godly. More complex things can take a lot of time to make, and I can only make so much stuff at once."

"Boo. Always limitations." She sat the cup down and returned to her meal. It didn't seem like she had ate very much but about half of her meal was gone already. "So what were you doing when it first appeared?"

“Well, I was about fourteen and I was trying to make some pottery. I had closed my eyes and was trying to imagine in my mind what I wanted this piece to look like. When I opened my eyes, right there in front of me was a purple mug, except for its size and color it was almost exactly as I had imagined it. It then started to dissolve into nothing fairly quickly and was gone just like that. Needless to say I was both amazed and confused, and I wondered if I really had seen what I thought I did. It took some more time before I figured out exactly what was going on, much less got better control of it.”

"Pottery? Were you doing something in school or is that a hobby of yours?" She asked. She giggled. "So that's it huh? I was wondering if you were wishing for something then boom, it suddenly appeared smack dab in like your classroom."

"Not really, its my mother's hobby, she tried to get me and my sister into it as well. I was never that good at it, nothing ever used to turn out anything like I imagined it."

"Hehe. So technical. You know what I mean." She glanced over at her bag.

"I should probably get to my room soon. At least to drop that stuff off."

"Need any help? Seeing as I already know my way around campus I can at least I can show you to the dorms. Besides, I'd like you to at least tell me what this gross power of your's is. You've got me too curious to just let you go without trying to find out."

She smiled. "I'd love that! That's nice of you. I think I'm in Proudstar Hall. I just plan on throwing my bag in there anyway. After that, maybe you can show me around campus too?"

He drops his trash in a nearby receptacle, then glances back at the purple cup still on the table.

“Oh right, that” The cup starts to glow all at once and then in just a second it is gone.

"Okay, When your ready to go I'll lead the way"

Kaylee gathered her trash too and disposed of it. She went over to get her bag then walked back to Niles.

"All ready here. Lead the way."

"Okay, follow me then"

Niles walked slowly to the exit closest to the dorms, making sure Kaylee was keeping up.
When they got to the door he held the door open since she had her hands full pulling her luggage.

[ Since the timing in the 450 thread's pretty off from this one I'm gonna keep this post here. ]

Kaylee smiled, whispering thanks to Niles as he moved inside. "Be right back, okay?" She said before finding the empty from of Suite 450. She was hardly gone a minute before he snuck back out, trying to be pretty quiet just in case any roomies were sleep.

"All good. So where to first?"

“Hmmm, Not sure. Lets go outside while I think about it”

He walked outside the dorms and looked around, trying to figure out where to start.

She looked around as well, placing her hands on her hips. "What about the buildings over there?" She pointed in the direction of the North Campus.
