Issue 11 DT - Many Happy Returns

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

Headmaster McManus was waiting alongside the landing pad after the rescue team had announced they were on their way back. She was barefoot, and wearing a long white terrycloth bathrobe, her hair wet.

Several security teams were standing by.

"I'm telling you, I'm fine!" comes the exasperated voice of the Sphinx from inside, sounding like she's at the very least rather annoyed, if not still angry.

One of them Sara, though technically she was just in a lab-coat and not a doctor.

Ms. McManus finally let out a breath as the landing gear of the plane touched down on the landing pad. She looked to the doors, anxiously.

Steph stalked off the plane as the doors opened, dressed in a spare uniform from the jet, patting Trev's shoulder as she walked by him.

"You did fine. Relax," she said to him quietly.

"Oh-okay. I think we can all get off the plane now. One at a time, nice and slow, careful on the ramp," Trev said, playing steward awkwardly near the exit. "Go straight to the medics, guys,"

Trev turned to Sam. "Uh...right professor? Lets get everyone checked out?"

"I told you, I'm fine." she says as the big shadow in the opening of the ramp turns into the four-legged Sphinx as she leaves the plane. "Relatively speaking..."

"Aye. In the flesh and larger than life." she grins just a bit awkwardly, unable to resist the urge to spread her wings and stretch after the cramped ride in the plane.

Steph stood, being examined by a few medics, and looked at Sara. "Yeah...a dose of that would be good. And a quiet room away from everyone. And get Anderson a tranquilizer before he passes out," she said with a hint of a smirk.

Sara nods and goes around giving everyone a short injection with a trans-dermal applicator.

Renko walked down the ramp wordlessly and waved away a medic who came to check him out. He seemed set on something and walked away from the landing pad back towards the team locker rooms.

Renko stopped and turned to look at Will. Seeing Will's state he actually walked over towards the team leader to prevent Will from re-injuring himself.

"On the island Kraven had set up some kind of game preserve. Once we breached the wall we found everybody had been transformed by the gas," Renko explained, "Kraven had put explosive collars on everybody he'd captured I suppose to keep them in line. When we removed the collars the explosions attracted the others who'd been trapped by Kraven. After we either talked them down or made them submit with we loaded them onto the plane. Then we tracked down Kraven. We found his hiding place and fought him. Once we'd backed him into a corner Kraven used an unknown device on himself. There was a bright flash of light and then there was nothing left of Kraven but ash and the smell of brimstone. Not sure if he died or something else happened."

"Nothing," Renko said, "Some residue on the walls. I took some samples, so at the very least we can take a look at them in the lab. Not sure if we'll get anything from them or not though. He had more crates of supplies, but nothing like the device he used."

"You're right, Rachel -- the no remains and the ash and brimstone all seem to point to that effect.

...Kraven is not the kind of person to use explosive shock collars, either.

There's more here. We've only scratched the surface."
