Morbid recreations (open)

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

Morbid recreations (open)

Postby Calvin Strong » Sat Feb 15, 2014 11:38 pm

Cal was finally powered enough to resume normal functioning, even if he didn't feel up to tossing off lightning. And so, mobile, he found himself in the danger room, the scene he'd put together a hodgepodge of scenes that all seemed to revolve around the facility, both parts that people had seen the previous day and... Otherwise.

In one part was a scale model of the rooms they'd seen, complete with system diagrams from what he'd uncovered. Other, similar models of other facility areas were nearby. Presently, though, he was looking over a projection of the very-like-him body they'd found. And of course THIS is the part that sticks in my head.

Roland was startled to find someone else in the room, and instead went up to observe from the observation booth.

Too bad I couldn't get a blood sample. Cal examined the body. The cybernetics were obviously not the same as his, but as far as the body itself... He looked it over, trying to get an idea for what the person looked like before he met his messy end.

He looked just like an every-day sort of bloke--some dark black hair, pale complexion. Nothing about him that would seem to have him stand out--just a regular kid, plucked out of his regular life.

Cal sighed, shaking his head. "All right... we're taking 'cloning technology' off the immediate worry-list," he mused. "Poor bastard... there but for the grace of god and all that..."

Cal looked back at the door, then back at what he was studying. "I don't know if that's more or less reassuring than using the hard-light projectors." One of Cal's orbiting sensor-spheres broke away from him and glided over to scan Ashlie.

"Oh, trust me. I'm crazy," Cal said as the projections enlarged. "Just not for the reasons everyone thinks I am."

"And... I don't know if I am." He indicated the projection of the body. "That... I'm pretty sure it means that I was wrong when I was thinking that this asshole is using cloned stock as his test subjects. I think. I wouldn't put it past him to grab someone and leave the body for us to find to put us off the path. Damn it... I think I just got crazier..." he scowled at the projection of the dead body.

"Even at a cursory analysis this appears to be significant cybernetic work. If the enhancements are functional it seems unlikely to be a ruse. I do see why someone interested in cybernetically enhancing people would be interested in reproducing your unique physiological makeup though."

"Oh, and that's exactly why he'd do it!" Cal said, pacing between the projections and looking much more like the manic, paranoid person that people knew and, well, didn't love. "Here... look. This is the facility I was in the first time. Total duration was ten months. I think. A lot of the tests made time hard to keep track of." One thing Ashlie would note from the projection Cal had drawn up was that about two thirds of the facility was noted to be incredibly similar to the Danger Room, and that notes indicated that other parts might have been, with inconclusive proof to decide.

"No. I had to do a lot of guesswork and hypothetical engineering. I know what it did in the end... not really how it did it. For all I knew he had a differently designed system in each room to do the same thing. It wouldn't surprise me, either. Here, look. This is where we... I slept. I never knew that it was a hard light simulation until it was too late. I never knew that the other people in there with me were hard light simulations until it was too late, either."

"The X-Men brought back a lot of data on the second facility." she says, creating a new layout with a lot more detailed schematics behind the scenes. "While it employs similar technology in parts you might find it reassuring to see that it is not the same as the school's system. For one we do not have pitfalls, acid nor circular saws in any of the corridors." she 'jokes'.

"Hard light projections can make all of that," Cal said offhandly, though he didn't sound like he was really making a case for it. "But yes... look at what we saw of that facility. Nothing for deception. Nothing for anything more than a lot of toying with us. Totally different operation. So that leaves me with 'why'. Why the hell did he do this. The only thing I can figure out is that he wasn't intending to keep us any longer than he did."

"No, that... That doesn't make sense, he doesn't run it, she runs it. He has everything to not get caught. Teleport tech. Holo-distortion. He could direct it from miles away. Or beam out to a bunker. So why was he in a completely obvious and vulnerable place."
