Float Like a Butterfly ((open))

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

"They're still amazing. Maybe the lack of a mind behind it makes it even more impressive. Those things they accomplish without any conscious mind."

"Maybe. Too many can be very confusing. But imagine someone who mostly agrees with you but who she listens to a bit more. Or someone who isn't quite as bubbly as the other voice. They would help everyone find a balance. How does she add more voices?"

"Right? And one thing I always thought was cool was the whole symmetrical deal. How the honeycombs are all hexagons. I mean, you see that kind of stuff in shells and stuff, but it's so amazing that bugs do it without thinking. Spiders with their webs, too. It's seriously an artistic marvel."

The day there will be a balance will be the day I smile. She said pessimistically. We are created through drawings on her skin. Someone else could draw it, but she manifests it. It could be temporary, or permanent. I am an example of the permanent, and the other voice is temporary for now, until she decides otherwise. She has wings as well, but wings are not a being, therefore it has no voice. She once drew a gecko with gel pens and it had the most annoying thought process. Very narrow. I believe the temporary have less structure, but I am not sure completely.

"It is." she nods. "I've been talking to Frankie some and I think she's a little unhappy." she carefully adds.

"Huh? Are you sure it was Frankie? She's been quiet."

"Hardly. I've learned to be quiet around you, if need be." Frankie chimed in. Elise looked confused. "What? You're being weird."

"She's been talking to us instead." she says, not sure how much Frankie wants explicitly spelled out for Elise. "We think she's a little bit like we are. Part of a whole."

"Whoa, I didn't know she could do that."

"Of course you didn't. You never asked."

Elise frowned, looking like she felt bad. "How...how big of a 'whole' are we talking? Did I screw something up?"

"No. Probably not. You might have to ask the Headmistress for specifics. But shunning something unbalances things. And Frankie sounds like she feels a little shoved aside."

Elise looks a bit upset for a moment. "Hey, she's been mean! Of course I don't want to talk to her or anything like that! She makes me cry!"

"B-but..." Elise stopped, thinking for a few moments. "So what do I do? Listen to her be mean to me? It hurts!" Her irrationality was clearly showing, like a child placing them blame elsewhere. Frankie looked to Teri, a 'look' that may say 'See what I mean?'.

"Maybe she's only mean because you won't listen in the first place. And don't think you have to just do what she says! Just consider what she's saying. And why. Are there times when she's particularly mean?"

Teri frowns at the large spider.

"We sometimes feel bad around people. They stare and talk. And when they don't some of us wonder if we just missed it or they talk about how they're right. It's not very nice, but they balance out the ones that tell us that we're better than everyone. You don't want to think those things, so Frankie does it for you."

"Why are you sticking up for Frankie? What, are you guys like, BFFs now? Why do those things have to be thought of at all? Why can't things just be happy around here?" The teenage jealousy and emotional overdrive was kicking in ten-fold now.

"We're just trying to help..." she says, sounding a little out of her depth. She did alright as long as they were talking about something she had experience with, but they were moving further and further away from that and it was making her uncertain. "If you push things aside too much they grow bigger and angrier..."

"Yeah, well Frankie seems to like you, so help him! Er...her! Ugh! I don't understand any of this and it...it p-pisses me off!" she said, flustered by her own irrational anger. Teri was right, and apparently Elise and Frankie had pushed things aside for quite a while, hence her anger now. "You want to be happy and make someone else hate themselves, fine! Go ahead! I don't need you anyway!" She yelled towards the spider, then quickly stormed off with tears of frustration in her eyes.

"...I'm unsure the best course of action right now. But as you can see, she's like a child. Perhaps I've been too hard on her..." Frankie sent to Teri, staying put in her hand.

"I think no matter how it's explained, she'll still have a negative reaction. I think anyone would. Before she came here, she just thought she was crazy when she heard me. Since she has talked to a couple people, she's trying to deal with the fact that I'm a part of her. And the other voice as well. I think it's difficult to come to terms with. Her favorite snack? Berry yogurt, as silly as that sounds. Though she can seem rather difficult, she's rather simple when it comes to materialistic things."

Frankie seemed to look at her for a long while. "It's been over a year since she created me. It is...difficult to imagine there being room. But...you're right. It's just hard to come to terms with."

"Wish we could explain it better because it makes so much sense in here." she says, tapping her temple. "But when we try to explain it with words it doesn't. When you touched our fingers we felt it. One loud voice among the rest, even if it isn't our own, it sends ripples everywhere."

"You seem to do better at explaining it than most. In fact, you are really the only one that's explained it at all. There's been suggestions of such, but nothing that made as much sense to me as what you've said. El may not understand it, but I do."

"Then surely she does too. In a way?" she asks and then suddenly seems to realize something. "You said you don't always talk to her. You're more separate! Oh we're so stupid! All of us, we hear each other all the time, every single thing. We know what each one knows because that's our power, spreading ourselves through insects, linking them together. But she only creates things, you don't share every single thought!"

"Nothing substantial. However, the less she has listened to me and pushed me to the side, the more she is changing. The way I imagine it is...somewhat like a tree and it's branches. The truck is the base and what supports the tree. The branches spread from the trunk and make up the rest of the tree. Each branch is individual in it's shapes, textures, and even colors sometimes. However, without all of them, it doesn't make up the whole tree, nor is the trunk of the tree able to reach up to the sun's light without them."

Still like us. Weaker connection. Too different. Send her to the headmistress. We can help them too. Different problem. Rifts.

"We'll talk to her. But maybe she should talk to Professor McManus. She knows even more about this. About being divided and bringing the voices together. She helped us with it."

"I have to admit, I have not felt connected like this before to anyone besides El. It's strange. Telepaths can hear me, but to truly understand is a whole other thing." She remarked as she rode along on Teri's head, careful not to tug at the hair.
