New Maldon Park: The Picnic

[Haley Crusek]

"For harassing the humans that those other assholes did? For fighting and making a mess? For littering? I don't know, we're mutants, we're teenagers, seems like an invitation for cops to fuck with us."

[Benjamin Brant]

Ben frowned, "Haley, I get what you're saying, I really do, but if we run from the scene of course the cops are going to think we had something to do with it ."

"The only way to make things better is if we stay and explain things. Even if it's inconvenient."

[Haley Crusek]

"Great. Can't wait to spend the night in jail," she scowled.

[Kay Haddock]

"We didn't do anything. They can't just arrest us. We're not in Texas."

[Steve Jones]

"No arguing... head hurts."

Steve's nose has stopped bleeding, but he still looked out of it.

[Haley Crusek]

Haley went and grabbed her small purse and started rummaging around, walking over towards Steve, ignoring Kay and Ben. She finally produced a bottle of assorted painkillers, poured out three pills and handing them to Steve. "Here. I'll get you a Coke. Excedrin is every telepath's friend." She bounced off and returned quickly with the promised can of Coke.

[Steve Jones]

Steve greedily tossed back the pills and likely half the Coke, then belched from the carbonation.

"Thanks," he smiled as he tried to stand, but quickly gave up and moved to a sitting position.

"I feel like... like there's a clog dancing competition being held in my skull."

[Haley Crusek]

"Fun, ain't it?" she smirked, a bit of sympathy behind it.

[Narrator]

The police eventually showed up and the kids were promptly arrested.

Okay, "arrested" wasn't exactly the right word. They were "held for questioning" while the police contacted the Institute and got someone to come fetch them.

Currently, all of the kids were waiting in one of the holding rooms.

[Haley Crusek]

"I fucking told you, assholes," Haley swore at her companions, pacing back and forth.

[Kay Haddock]

"Yes, great, thanks, why don't you tell us ten more times, maybe that'll get us out."

[Steve Jones]

"I guess they can't tell mutants apart," Steve grumbled.

[Benjamin Brant]

"I'm sure they're just trying to make sure we get home safe," Ben says.

[Steve Jones]

"And I bet those Brotherhood goons were just saying hi."

[Benjamin Brant]

"I hope they're all right," Ben says, "They kind of fell apart at the end there."

[Haley Crusek]

"You hope they're alright? I hope they get hit by a bus. Fuck them."

[Steve Jones]

"That tentacle-headed girl's had a rough time, but I don't think that excuses anything."

[Kay Haddock]

"Yeah, they started it."

[Benjamin Brant]

"I wasn't defending them, I was just worried about them," Ben says, "They're still human beings."

[Haley Crusek]

"Don't let them hear you call them that." she muttered.

[Steve Jones]

"I hope the school sends someone soon..." Steve sighed.
