I12DT - No One Expects The Ghostly Inquisition

Up until recently maintained as a museum, the childhood home of the Braddock family has been pressed into service as additional housing and classroom space for the Institute. Additionally, the increased demands have led to the main ballroom being converted into a cafeteria for both the Institute and those University students on a meal plan. Student reactions have been mixed, and reports of paranormal activity are as of yet unsubstantiated.

I12DT - No One Expects The Ghostly Inquisition

Theresa was lounging in the common room, thumbing through a book on meteorology and reading the occasional passage. Not the most exciting reading ever, but she was tired of sitting in her room all the time.

"For the last time, Miss Rourke, stop hiding inside the library bookshelves and jumping out to scare people." Mallory says as she 'escorts' Regan into the common room.

Regan rolls her eyes, "They deserve it. Did you see what they were reading? Proust? Fucking kill me twice."

Theresa looked up with a raised eyebrow, but didn't seem inclined to interfere with anyone who was scolding Regan.

"I'm sure they would if they could." she says and turns to leave, having delivered Regan into the common room.

"Engage her. I'll be right here." her thoughts seep into Regan's head.

"Look, what happened between me and Kay is just that, between me and Kay." And if Kay had actually been interested in listening to me, it probably could have been avoided. Theresa was angry, but she was trying not to let in show in either her face or in her power.

"Now now, if people listened to each other the world would be so boring." she adds colour-commentary as she lets Regan hear Theresa's thought.

Meanwhile she slips along Theresa's anger and deeper into her mind to see if there's any reason beyond the obvious for why she dislikes Regan.

Theresa hated Regan for pretty much all the expected reasons (Regan was a bitch) and most especially for that "predator" remark Regan had made in the Danger Room. "You don't know me and you weren't there, so you don't have a damn right to judge me. And Kay obviously isn't all that heart broken."

She did get over you fairly fast, didn't she? she lays down the slightest reinforcement inside Theresa's mind. Maybe Regan's just upset her plans were dashed when she wasn't the one Kay ran to after getting you two to break up.

She obviously did not pass this along to Regan.

"You think I don't know you? You're selfish. You only care about yourself," Regan says, "As soon as being with Kay was hard, you ended it without even considering how she felt. Nice job being a pro-girlfriend there."

"At least I'm comforted that you weren't the one she ran to after she gave me the boot. That must really burn you." Theresa's mind was getting fairly split at this point as she was literally trying to do two things at once: argue with Regan and keep storm clouds from forming in the common room.

So terrified of not being in control of yourself. Is that just from your power or is there more to it... she wonders and follows that fear.

There were any number of incidents where her lack of control had damaged something or nearly damaged someone. And between the incident with her entire school harassing her for her sexual orientation and then having another reason because she was a mutant, there was the thought... well... hope rather that if she got her power reigned in that everything else might fall into place. "I suppose a .001 percent chance is better than none, but I don't know that I would call it significant either."

"Me, me, me, that's all she cares about. She doesn't care about Kay." she whispers into Theresa's mind.

Regan on the other hand would only see a wave of jealous rage coming from Theresa and the mental equivalent of a sky full of yellow storm-clouds. If she can't have Kay then no one should.

"She was having the time of her damn life in Brigid's body. She wasn't having some sort of crisis." Theresa was losing it at this point, storm clouds starting to appear against the ceiling. "She didn't want to understand that it was weird for me that my girlfriend was in the body of one of my best friends. I tried to tell her, tried to explain, but she wasn't interested in listening." She slammed her book shut and stood up. "Are you quite finished trying to make me miserable just so you can feel better about yourself?"

Theresa's eyes disappeared behind flares of green energy. The ceiling was now entirely obscured by storm clouds and electronic devices were beginning to make odd sounds as the electric charge in the air increased. "Done barking now," she said, coldly, making a gesture and pulling the charge out of the clouds attempting to direct it towards the lightning rod in Regan's hand, but not really having the control to do so.

A stray bolt hits Regan. Similar to when she was zapped by Calvin, she dissipates momentarily before reforming. It hurt, but it wasn't fatal.

In response, Regan swung the blade at Theresa. If it hit, it would pass harmlessly through the girl, tingling a little bit as it passed through.

Theresa however, didn't know that. She threw herself backwards, barely managing to get away. The wind suddenly kicked up, catching her and softening her fall, though it dropped her almost as suddenly as her head started to pound. She fought through the pain, yanking another lightning bolt out of the clouds, though this one was far less potent.

"Aah!" Regan says, after reforming from being hit by lightning again, "You freaking whore!"

Regan swings at Theresa again, silver runes beginning to glow along the edge of the blade.

This time Theresa's pain gets the better of her and she doesn't get out of the way. The blade passes through her arm and she cries almost in expectation of the pain than in any actual pain. Seeing that she actually still has an arm and Regan's eaten two lightning bolts and is still ready to rumble, she raises her hands, "Regan! This... this is pointless!" Her head was starting to pound now and Mallory would be able to sense the pain without really trying.

Regan responded by promptly turning into a pillar of unburning flames. The soul blade darkened and turned to black, the silver runes turning to bright red.

Mallory doesn't even wince when Theresa's pain hits, either she's really good at blocking that kind of thing or worse she's used to other peoples pain. "Running away would probably be a good idea."
