Anita rolls into the cafeteria with Teri, heads straight for the food and starts loading up on protein and veggies. "So whatcha do fer fun?"

"We like to help in the gardens and explore the woods. There's always something new to find all over the place that people don't notice. Ooh, we've been trying to teach an ant colony how to prepare for the winter so they don't have to hibernate!"

"Really? Well, I can't help with the ants, but I do love bein' outdoors. Count me in whenever yer headin' inta the woods and want some company."

Anita chuckles. "So like, are ya havin' the ants build little houses er what?"

"Ooh, no!" she says, happy that someone wants to hear more about her little project. "But we're teaching them to insulate their hive with straw. Right now they've finished the queen's chamber."

"Straw huh? That makes sense." Anita devours a sausage in efficient, but not exactly ladylike fashion.

"So ow oong oo ink ihh aake?" She swallows.

She tilts her head, trying to make out what she's saying.

"Well we're hoping we can finish that and the heating by the end of November."

"Heatin'? They're gonna have a little furnace in there? Central air an all?" Anita gins and winks at Teri.

"Oh no no! But when you compost dead leaves and such it produces heat. I'm showing them how to do that."

"Yes!" she smiles cheerfully. "And then things won't feel so dead in the winter. I'd show them how to take care of other insects, but they'd probably just eat them at some point."

Anita nods. "Yeah, but that's proper. I mean, nature is all about eatin' and bein' et."

"So can ya'll turn inta all kinds a different bugs?"

She shakes her head.

"But we can talk to them. They're all pretty dumb though. Only the ants and bees are smart enough to remember things."

Anita shrugs. "Gotta say, yer the only bug I've ever got along with, so maybe it's better they ain't so smart. Mosquitoes especially." She makes a face.

"They're just hungry too." she chuckles, not bothering with a plate and instead straight up taking one of the salad bowls and carrying it to the register. "We're glad we're not mosquitoes though."

"Yeah, but I just spent some time where malaria was a thing, so I ain't super fond of mosquitoes right now."

"I don't mind em I guess. I just don't like the ones that make people sick. I grew up on a ranch so there was no way ta not be around bugs."

Anita laughs. "Yeah, that's probably true enough. But what about our roomie? Ain't she all inta spiders and whatever?"

Teri shakes her head. "She's just depressed all the time because her powers makes her hurt things. We tried cheering her up but we think she got a little annoyed with us..."

Anita smiles. "Naw, that just means you gotta try harder, with help. You an' me, we're happy folks. We'll get her outa all that black before too long!"

"Exactly! Nobody likes that, but they kin get stuck in a rut." Anita by now has packed away her meal and leans back in her chair with her arms behind her head.

"Now I just gotta track down all the folks I know. I hope most of em are still at the school."

"It's weird bein' back. Super quiet here. Might have trouble gettin' used ta it."

Anita shrugs. "Are you a vegetarian?"

"Mostly! And it's cheaper. The school pays for our food, but we don't want to bee too much of a bother than we have to be."

Anita pulls her feet up on her chair and wraps her arms around her knees. "Anything interestin' or weird happen lately?"
