Sep 15th - For Just One Yesterday

Up until recently maintained as a museum, the childhood home of the Braddock family has been pressed into service as additional housing and classroom space for the Institute. Additionally, the increased demands have led to the main ballroom being converted into a cafeteria for both the Institute and those University students on a meal plan. Student reactions have been mixed, and reports of paranormal activity are as of yet unsubstantiated.

"For someone who isn't trained, it can be terrifying. Anything can happen there and sometimes it feels like you don't have control over it, but it's a place of almost pure thought and that panic is in many ways more dangerous."

Miranda contemplated that for a moment as she shelved a couple of books. Then she held the book in her hand out in Veronica's general direction, "Take it, please." Her other hand was fishing in the small shoulder bag that she always wore these days.

Miranda pulled a small sketchbook out of her bag along with a pencil and flipped it open to a blank page. She started sketching rapidly, staring into the space between books, which apparently had some bearing on the vision as she sketched them into it. The shape the image took on was that of a long tunnel of books with an indistinct, almost ghostly figure hovering at the far end of it. The figure was reaching towards the viewer as though they were asking for help. After a moment, the pencil slowed down and Miranda shook her head. "Sorry... Goddess, that was... Whew. Better now."

She smiles. "No need to apologize. Zat is a wonderful way to keep zee memory off what you see. Eet is how I do sings as well." Her own hand digs in her bag and pulls out her journal, tapping it.

"Mom says that part of the process is using this," she tapped the sketchbook, "to take control rather than letting the vision control me. Or something like that. I'm sure I'm getting it wrong. You're welcome to look if you want." She offered the sketchbook to Veronica.

Among the drawings, were some that stood out:
  • A ruined temple (the first image in the book)
  • A blindfolded archer and a hooded woman fighting an amorphous cloud monster
  • A female figure in a cocoon in the dark
  • A hooded woman holding a bloody sword
  • A broken-winged figure in a cell or box of some sort
  • A once-winged woman in the middle of a scattering of bodies
  • Several drawings that did not have the quality of the others as if the artist wasn't drawing from the straight visual

"Some of those are nearly a year old. And it was hard to sort out vision-visions from my clairvoyance moving around at first."

"I would like to sink your future is not a ruined temple, Miranda. You seem very smart and I do not sink your future is a dark one. Sings such as zis...or zis..." She says, motioning to the broken temple, then a woman surrounding bodies. "Are, as you said, not set in stone."

She nods. "I can not say I will ever be in understanding off how zat works, as I see zee oser side off zat spectrum. However, I do know zat, powers aside, should you ever feel zee need to talk sings over and keep yourself from falling into zat obsession, I would be more zen happy to oblige.
