Post-midnight snacking

Up until recently maintained as a museum, the childhood home of the Braddock family has been pressed into service as additional housing and classroom space for the Institute. Additionally, the increased demands have led to the main ballroom being converted into a cafeteria for both the Institute and those University students on a meal plan. Student reactions have been mixed, and reports of paranormal activity are as of yet unsubstantiated.

"What," he muttered, looking self-consciously down at the table again.

Go make out?

Cal turned red at that. "You... wait a minute, they didn't say you could read minds in power class," he said, frowning as he thought back.

Cal smirked. "All right, all right," he said, walking over to the fridge and raiding it for a few sodas. "Let's go see if we have to share the den with anyone."

Haley hopped over the back of the couch and plopped down into the cushions to let Cal get the movie set up. The leap would reveal that she was indeed wearing shorts under her long shirt, but that they didn't cover much skin.

And, trying very hard not to think too loud about what a great ass she appeared to have, and probably failing horribly in the process, Cal was messing with the TV and the various things hooked up to it. Then he came walking over to sit next to Haley as a movie started up. Evidently Cal had decided to go with a comedy, and one that would appeal to their high school mentalities. Just chill out, Cal. It looks like she doesn't want you going and sitting on the other side of the room at least...

Haley kept the distance friendly between them for about the first half hour of the movie, but then decided to readjust, putting a pillow against Cal's shoulder and leaning against him.

It probably wouldn't take a psychic to know that this surprised him. But, thankfully, he rolled with it. He shifted a little as she readjusted, putting his arm around her to make their positioning less awkward. Yeah, that was TOTALLY why he did it...

In response, Haley just snuggled in closer, laughing at the movie

Cal smiled a little, trying to relax. Which, of course, was easier said than done if this was the closest a girl had let you get to her for about a year. He took a deep breath, totally not consulting a few Internet dating resources (none he'd admit to at least), then got up the nerve to lean against her in return.

Yes, he realized that it was a tiny movement, but it made him feel better nonetheless.

As the movie progressed, Haley shifted even closer to Cal until finally the pillow was mostly behind her and she was resting squarely against Cal's side, his arm wrapped around her.

Cal sighed, not bothering to close his eyes (he'd kind of given up on that habit since they weren't real eyes anymore anyway) as he sank back into the couch, too. "So am I being rewarded for being good, or am I getting hints to make a move?" he half-joked.

And her hand would feel his heart hammering. He did, apparently, have a hell of a poker face when you weren't close enough to feel his reactions. "What I want doesn't ever have much of a bearing on things."

"Just doesn't," he said quietly. "Never has. I got used to that." He remembered that this close, it was just that much more obvious his eyes weren't real, and glanced down. Which, of course, had him looking at her chest, which made him look back up quickly, which had him looking at her face again, which made him glance to the side for lack of anywhere else to look.

Cal didn't have all that great of a view since she was a bit turned into him to gaze up at his face and she was wearing a tee that was enormous on her. She looked pretty sad about what he was saying.

"That's not fair at all...you should get what you want. So what do you want?" she asked softly. "not a trick question. No strings attached...what do you want?"

"I... don't think anyone's asked me that in years," he admitted quietly. "So I... don't know, I just..." He looked back at her, and decided that while he had no idea if it was the thing he wanted, it was a thing he wanted. And so he leaned down (and scooted down) and kissed her.

Haley returned the kiss gently, but eagerly, adjusting to a more comfortable position, and letting the kiss linger.

"That was nice," she said with a slight smile, her forehead resting against Cal's, their faces still pressed together.
